What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grounded by a career-best Kate Winslet, Mare of Easttown's ambitions at times exceed its reach, but its central mystery is supported by such strong sense of place and character it hardly matters.

Jules S 16 minutes in and I was so irritated by the sloppy lazy writing and 'noise' it is absolutely clear the series can't get better. I absolutely won't be watching more. Overuse of the F word & disheartening & unrealistic use of Christ's good name made me feel ashamed of the actors agreeing to the script. The first scene was whiny & annoying & carried on too long. Everything continued to be drab from herein with the only engaging scene being one where a young Mum communicates with the parent of her child. I'm disappointed that Kate Winslet has taken on this trash. I can't bear the F word & I'm at loss to understand why another show uses it as a filler, it's a waste of space. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Nashville I Kate Winslet in a mystery, with a solid supporting cast: slam dunk. Admittedly a mystery that can feel a bit glacial at times, the characters are actually very interesting. The character writing is what keeps you invested throughout the series. While some side stories with characters feel like fluff, these actually keep you guessing as to what's going to shake loose next. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review babarizam D I kept waiting when this show will kick in but after two disappointing episodes I gave up. I think it was a wrong idea to watch it after true detective Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Dan C Well-paced and written, but it can be emotionally draining at times. Winslet really shines in this series. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Drew W A short, bittersweet show. It satisfies my craving for detective shows that highlight the investigative process, while really being focused on the very interesting characters surrounding the detective in Mare. I love just about all of the present characters in this show just given their believability and definitive space on the show. The real tough case to solve in the show is Mare's personal life, from her mistakes to her endured trauma, and in the end she seemingly is able to close it in parallel with the actual investigation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
