What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jason Clarke and Patricia Arquette are a magnetizing pair who make it worthwhile to watch Murdaugh: Death in the Family, a true-crime dramatization that narrows its grizzly focus on this family's downward spiral and truly delivers.

Murdaugh’s problem is its overdramatization. Go to Full Review

The narrowness of focus is refreshing in our era of excessive therapyspeak. Go to Full Review

The horrible revelations steadily accumulate, and the entitlement grows nauseous, but the storytelling is workmanlike. Ticking boxes isn’t enough in this genre any more. Go to Full Review

The miniseries is well-made but feels a little anticlimactic. Hamstrung between the facts and the urge to make the show dramatically compelling, the writers never manage to create interesting interior lives for the characters. Go to Full Review

Even if you saw the revelations and news about the Murdaugh trial as it unfolded on the news, you will find a lot to keep you entertained as you watch this series, but it will work a lot better for those who don’t know how it ends. Go to Full Review

An important cautionary tale about the perils of unchecked power and how, if one sweeps problems within a family under the rug, they can... spiral out of control... Adding to this more human approach are the fiercely authentic performances. Go to Full Review

Jem W @Jjemfried 18h Patricia was incredible in this series . All of the actors were spot on. See more Missmaxi M 3d Great watch especially if you’re into true crime. The cast do a great job! See more Stacey R Nov 30 As someone who has very closely followed this case through Mandy Matney's podcast (True Sunlight, formerly known as The Murdaugh Murders Podcast), I could not wait for this Hulu Original Series to drop. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The actors - literally all of them - killed it in their portrayals of the Murdaugh family and those who were close to them. I am so proud of Mandy Matney and her team - Liz Farrell, David Moses, Eric Bland etal - for shining the light on the good ole boys network. Holding people accountable is just good journalism. This series laid it all out there. Incredible. See more Gene O Nov 22 This was not easy to watch, at least for me. Each member of this family was despicable. Its well acted but the story is a little bloated, which only serves to prolong my disgust at watching it. I now know more about this family than I ever wanted to. Had I known anything about the story before starting, I'd have skipped it but I wanted to see it through. A detailed story about corruption within a real family is just not my thing. See more Andrew M Nov 21 Even if you know the story, this miniseries brings it to life. See more Deb M Nov 20 I loved every episode. The actors were perfect. Such a tragic story but Mandy Matney covered it from day one on her podcast. I must say that the whole blue raincoat thing during the trial did not make sense to me until this last episode. I can’t imagine what was going through Maggie’s mind at that last moment. A must watch series!!! See more Read all reviews
