When it is discovered that an enormous asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth, MIT grad student Liam Cole and tech billionaire Darius Tanz team up to save humanity from this impending apocalypse -- without ever alerting the public. As part of the project, Darius recruits an aspiring sci-fi writer, Jillian, to work on a theoretical approach to saving humanity. While they try to save the world their way, the government has its own approach, with Deputy Secretary of Defense Harris Edwards spearheading the top-secret plan to deflect the asteroid.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Neither remarkably bad nor impressively well-made, Salvation is stereotypical summer television -- a low-stakes diversion that may pass the time well enough for undemanding audiences without ever being particularly memorable along the way.

Matt Zoller Seitz New York Magazine/Vulture There is no direction to speak of, just shots of people saying lines, all cut together as chaotically as possible, the better to suggest "excitement" that the mini-series itself can't generate. Jun 23, 2020 Full Review Kelly Lawler USA Today Salvation is one of those series where what you see is exactly what you get, so for viewers seeking unchallenging thrills, it works. The world may be ending, but at least it's doing so in a comfortingly familiar way. And that feels fine. Rated: 2/4 Jun 23, 2020 Full Review LaToya Ferguson Entertainment Weekly Salvation quickly proves itself to lack a key point in that quip: Fun. Aug 24, 2018 Full Review Malcolm Hopwood Stuff.co.nz Salvation tries too hard. Nov 20, 2020 Full Review Ed Bark Uncle Barky Salvation... has some potential to be perhaps moderately involving. The initial two hours move along at a fairly crisp pace, complete with skulking and several close calls but next to nothing spent on special effects. Rated: C+ Jun 23, 2020 Full Review Adrian Hennigan Haaretz Indeed, such a cheesy series should come with a health warning for the lactose intolerant. May 16, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Tjerk v Story starts interesting enough but quickly gets so stupid that it makes the serie unwatchable. Acting is meh at best. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Richard M How has this got an 80% audience score? Poorly written and acted (in places). You have to massively suspend disbelief again and again and again. 2nd season was hard to get through, plots and characters intentions all over the place, never really convinces you of the jeopardy, and then you realise it was cancelled so the story isn't resolved. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Fletcher M It skilfully blended elements of politics, espionage, technology, and the looming threat of an asteroid collision to create a riveting narrative. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Valery J Salvation is outstanding show! It is a multi-dimensional dynamic political thriller combined with brilliant performances by the team of actors... I am appalled that the rotten tomato critics gave unsubstantiated low scores of 45% to the show Salvation which had from 7.0 to 3.4 million viewers (in the summer!)! This is versus 97% they gave to rather boring show Succession which had much smaller audience from 0.5 to 1.7 (at best) million viewers. Who can trust to these 'critics'... The Salvation show deserves much higher score of 95-100% and continuation for another season 3, at least. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Maggy S It is a very captivating show which keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.. A wonderful combination of a terrific thriller with smart plot of saving the humankind from the internal and external dangers. Which one is more dangerous? It is not so clear during the development of the events. This show encourages to respect knowledge and smartness, dedication and invention. This is brilliant combination of a political thriller with sci-fi theme which appeals to younger generation of technology-educated people. It is a very timely show and the viewers want to see season 3, at least. How the problems will be resolved, what else is prepared in political battles, will Darius Tanz establish a contact with the arrivals - all these questions need to be answered.. So we meet again the brilliant cast of the show... Although I have a few big questions to the reviews by so called critics..They issued very strange and biased reviews in July 2017, a day before the show started, after viewing only the first two episodes which only setup the dynamics of the show. They did not bother to revise them later when show came to season 2. I completely disagree with all of them. Because the show shown a great potential and terrific plays by the actors. Santiago Cabrera was brilliant playing flowlessly very different aspects of his character at different parts of the show. The same can be said about Jennifer Fennigan and Ian Anthony Dale who presented very well their characters of patriotic young officials in WH and DOD whose only wish is to serving their nation and make the thing right. The younger generation was well represented by Charlie Rowe, a smart MIT postdoctoral graduate who has a real talent and views for innovation. His story become even more dramatic after realising that he was adopted as a baby by a wonderful woman. Also very important were the characters of Jacqueline Byers who brought a very different character of an intuitive writer and hearty female who brings other angle into the picture for saving the humankind. Contradictory character of Melia Kreiling brought a good spice into the fight for survival combined with the wish to be recognised... With all these characters, thrilling plot which reminded me in places the best of James Bond films but with the much more humanised hero - a scientists and technological genius Darious Tanz. I suspect after viewing this series more young people with to study STEM and to achieve some success in research. This is much better that showing films about alcoholics, drug edicts and criminals with they breaks from prison... So what exactly the critics were missing here? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/23 Full Review Max I Definitely better that season 2 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
