The Gardener tells the story of Elmer and his controlling mother, La China Jurado, who runs a garden center that hides another thriving underground murder-for-hire business. Killing is easy for Elmer. An accident has left him emotionless. However, while planning the murder of Violet, a charming nursery school teacher, he falls in love with her. Elmer must learn to love while his mother does everything she can to end Violet's life.

Joel Keller Decider While there are a lot of absurd elements in The Gardener, the elements are grounded enough in reality to make them seem plausible. And the more plausible this show seems, the better it will be. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Karen D Although some of the episodes drag and it appears that 'breathing space' is given for the viewers to actually process what is happening the series is quite watchable. After a long time of no 'spew' scenes it seems they are coming back-like 'The Amateur' movie we watched the oat meal porridge spray all over the place...despite the 'hurry up and get on with it' scenes the storyline is interesting...to train your mentally challenged (but not obvious) child to kill...well, get rid of the dreadful people in the world. Time consuming but you can fast forward if necessary. Decide if you have the time to spare to watch, maybe take up knitting so you don't feel you have wasted your time. The series really excels when the lead character, Elmer, is in the scene. Violeta was enjoyable to watch and a good addition. The writing was fairly good with a few plot holes left open. The story is week when it follows the 2 detectives. They may have been miscast and just poor storyline for them. It was entertaining to watch and look forward to season 2.
