Starting over isn't easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan, who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of becoming an LAPD officer. As the force's oldest rookie, he's met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. If he can't keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he'll be risking lives -- including his own -- but if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become successful in this new chapter of his life.

Sophia G The rookie is a bad show. But it is so bad and so over the top that i love watching it that is why i have it two stars. But it is so obvious that this series tries too hard to be interesting. All characters are so over the top. First of all, when there is a crime, an accident or whatever kind of an urgency, there are always only the main characters involved. Like there are the only cops in LA. Everytime there is an ambulance needed Bailey, or the love interest of john which was a doctor before are always included in every emergency. Once his love interest change there are directly not involved anymore even though they were suddenly always present when he was together with them. When it was jessica the homeland officer in charge she was suddenly always present everytime there was a crime and of course the main character, as beat cops are ALWAYS involved and ALWAYS in charge even though there are not even in the chain of command. Bailey is so obvious over done as a character. She is so involved that she even participates in special ops even though it does not make any sense for her to be involved. This is explained that she is just extremnly capable and she does everything. She is a paramedic, an army veteran , extremly high skilled in martial arts and has always the highest belt. And because of these skills it is justifiable for the show that she is involved in special operations of hostage situations or other, which is baffeling, because normally she needs to be part of some service like SWAT or others to be able to participate. But no she isn't. She is JUST there, the moment she is the love interest of John. This can be "justified" by her being extremly competent, even though it does not making her constant involvement in every case logical . But where they really got me is when Celina was introduced. A rookie that does police work based on crystals and esoteric. She was only slightly repremanded for trying to explain her reasonings in police work whith occultism. At some point she gets not reprimanded anymore. And her character gets so out of hand that in season five she runs into a house of a hostage situation even though she is a rookie and has no responability whatsoever. Normally as a rookie, she would be guarding, as a beat cop, the streets surrounding the hostage situation, or putting up scones around the area, but no. She is with the most important crew that is in charge of the hostage saving. She is with them but she is still not in charge. She has no responsibilty, she is not even on the top of the chain of command. And besides that, she runs into the house of the hostage taking on an whim and of course she gets the hostage out safely. And after she did that, she gets not reprimanded for not having followed the instructions given to her. Nobody cared that a rookie ran into a house where a child was taken hostage by a man with a gun. The man even gives himself up because she is so good in dealing with the hostage situation. I mean there are many things in this show that are so obviously unrealistic. That the characters are so over the top confident and capable with no flaws, or no real flaws, and that there are always conveniently present, but what they did with celina is just baffeling, because she is so obviouls unqualified to run as a rookie in a hostage situation and nobody cared. With bailey they still tried to justify her being in charge but with celina it was just "Well who cares, this makes a great story" . And that sentence really sums up the show Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/04/25 Full Review Audience Member What an incredible Season, it just doesn't get boring and especially the last episode was probably one of the best episodes so far, the cliffhanger is genuinely amazing and the new characters like Celina are pretty enjoyable, I like her pretty much as a character, this might be in the debate for the best season, so many things happening at once but definitely not in a bad way, the season was thrilling and super exciting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Patrick L bank robbery at episode 9 continues the Hollywood myth that police car doors and main characters of shows are bullet proof. Especiall when they duck their head one or two inches. Two sub machine gus firing 80 -100 bullets only injure the armed character. Who strangely announces himself, breaks cover and without firing his gun yell citizens arrest when confronting two armed bankrobbers. Just you NRA members remember this, GUNS ARE BAD. LOL " Trust a good guy with a gun to really screw things up." l am Australian but even l know no Texan is gunna pull a gun and say citizens arrest. They are gunna pull a gun and put the bad guy in the ground!! What a crock! For future reference writers. Cover only works if actors duck before a gun is fired not after. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Javier T The great thing about season 5 is that now I never lose the remote! It is firmly in my hand to fast forward every time Celina appears. What a way to ruin an amazing show with a bland and annoying character who's only personality is already being perfect and some magic juju furniture powers. However, if you love rolling your eyes and love crimes being solved through "feeling", this is for you. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Vipul K Look i liked the previous seasons enough to watch them all in 5 days for 4 seasons. But this season is just annoying with Nolan's new rookie. She is just so annoying to watch with all that stupid stuff she talks about all the time my godddd!!!! When she talks about that stuff i want to hit my head on a wall. Who thought this kinda stuff would be good to watch? Fire whoever wrote her character, he doesnt deserve to write anything after this. All this in just 8 episodes, 14 still left, i think i need to start skip watching this show, just to keep liking the old cast who were mostly good all these seasons. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Marius J If you watched The Rookie Season 5 with the hope of finding something redeeming, you likely came away disappointed. The introduction of Celina as the new rookie completely derailed the show for me. Unlike the compelling character development we saw in Seasons 1 and 2, where the rookies faced realistic challenges and growth, Celina’s storyline felt forced and unrealistic. Her disregard for the rules and the lack of consequences made her character not only unlikable but also frustrating to watch. Compared to the earlier seasons, Season 5 failed to capture the same authentic struggles and growth, making it a significant letdown. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
