Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) I found it very gripping. Mar 10, 2025 Full Review Amber Dowling Globe and Mail It’s an impressive cast tackling captivating material, with pacing that, although slow at times, paints a full picture. Mar 7, 2025 Full Review Carol Midgley The Times (UK) It would be a shame to miss Toxic Town, and not just because its writer, Jack Thorne, manages to make a bleak and enraging story sing with a fizzing script. Rated: 4/5 Mar 6, 2025 Full Review Emily Baker iNews.co.uk Knowing the facts of the case still doesn’t undo any of Thorne’s expertly crafted suspense, and my heart was in my throat up until the last minute. Rated: 5/5 Mar 17, 2025 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) Despite having sequences that feel choppily connected, the overall arc is cohesive and riveting thanks to climactic and tense confrontations, political schemings, and sympathetic victims. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 12, 2025 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba That it remains as watchable as it is owes a lot to its phenomenal cast, led by Jodie Whittaker and Aimee Lou Wood, with strong supporting turns from Robert Carlyle, Rory Kinnear, Brendan Coyle, and Joe Dempsie, among others. Cindy M Very well acted with appealing actors in roles that feel authentic. Jodie Whittaker: powerful, consistent Aimee Lou Wood: A talented preformer with nuance in her facial and body movements that convey depth beyond the script. Rofy Kinnear is solid, always a good performance where he becomes the character he is portraying. Brendan Coyle, oh Mr. Bates, how far you have fallen. Excellent job with the character. Robert Carlyle is outstanding in his portrayal of the everyman caught in a dilemma. Stephen McMillan is interesting to watch on screen and has great potential. The story is based on a true event and the writers did a good job adhering to the facts. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review William F Brilliant series about the effects of toxicity of the decommissioned steel works in Corby on pregnant mothers leading to children being born with deformities. Brilliant acting by the women involved, the town councillors, workers supposedly involved in the clean-up job, the lawyer working for the women. Gritty, realistic drama with an expert touch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review Bart d Dramatic, intens, sad yet hopeful. Great acting from an Allstars British cast. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/05/25 Full Review Rob A To quote Winston Churchill: "How many times must the lesson be learned?!!" I speak here not about appeasement but about large companies recklessly polluting a (populated) area, leaving a trail of tears and devestation in their wake - then lawyering up and lying about it. We've all seen this before, on the news and in films like A Civil Action, Dark Waters and Erin Brokovich. Here the setting is Scotland circa 1997; a small town seeking to "reclaim" land formerly used for steel production experiences a cluster of birth defects and infant deaths. Based on a true story, Toxic Town (4 episodes on Netflix) is at once sad, reprehensible and gripping. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review Brian M Not a new concept so it needed something to be relevant. It certainly got it, slick script but more so the cream of English actors belted this out of the park. Congratulations all and thank you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Adam R It’s good not incredible very harrowing at the beginning but some of the performances are a bit over the top which takes away some of the realism.
