Life in "the biggest city in the smallest state" is tough for the colorful and occasionally rule-breaking Mayor James Centrella. Facing a corruption scandal that resulted in the resignation of his deputy, a police chief in the hot seat for letting a celebrity off despite DUI charges, and the murder of a witness to a fatal hit-and-run (blamed on the celebrity who was released and with a murder weapon that may have been stolen from the mayor's home) make his professional life more than a little tense. But his home life isn't any calmer, as he finds his daughter from a previous marriage prosecuting the hit-and-run case, and issues with his second wife, stepdaughter, and younger daughter all hitting him at once. The story is told from the point of view of his new deputy mayor, who wryly observes in the pilot that in Providence, R.I., sometimes the mayor is more powerful than the governor. CBS produced five episodes but never aired the series, citing cost and creative issues.
