Glen Charles grew up in a working class family, very close to his brother Les. After attending high school in Henderson, he enrolled in the University of Redlands, California, to study English. His first job as a writer was as a copywriter for an advertising agency, but he had always hoped to work in the entertainment industry. He, and his brother, Les Charles, moved to Los Angeles and started to look for work, writing spec scripts for their favorite sitcoms. After no response from their first submission, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," they heard back from the hit sitcom "MASH," who liked one of their scripts and had it produced. After "MASH," the two of them were hired as writers for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" spin-off "Phyllis," then for "The Bob Newhart Show," before writing and producing their own sitcom, ,"Taxi," starring Danny Devito and Christopher Lloyd. After the success of "Taxi," which ran for five seasons, they pulled together an incredible ensemble cast and created the now legendary sitcom "Cheers" and served as executive producers through its 11- year run. Following "Cheers," they created a spin-off sitcom that took the series to another level, "Frasier," which also ran for a staggering 11 seasons. Charles has worked with his brother on every script and project.
