Harold Jack Bloom
Harold Jack Bloom was a producer and screenwriter who worked predominantly in television. After a minor credit writing for the series "Studio One in Hollywood," Bloom hit it big with his first motion picture project, "The Naked Spur," which he co-wrote with Sam Rolfe. Rolfe and Bloom were nominated for a Best Writing, Story and Screenplay Oscar for this rookie effort, though they lost the award to screenwriting heavyweights Charles Brackett, Walter Reisch, and Richard Breen for "Titanic." "The Naked Spur" turned out to be Bloom's most successful turn at writing for the big screen, though he did provide scripts for later films, including a Howard Hawks project, "Land of the Pharaohs," and the Kirk Douglas and Johnny Cash feature "A Gunfight." A prolific television writer, Bloom penned over 200 episodes throughout his career, 134 of them for the 1970s series "Emergency!," about an L.A. fire station. He had stints on many other successful shows during the 1970s and 1980s, including credits on "Foreign Intrigue," "Bonanza," and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.." Bloom's last credit was a TV movie in 1989 called "Stuck with Each Other." He had a son, Charles, with actress Carolyn Kearney, though the marriage didn't last. After retiring, he died in 1999 in Los Angeles.
