Jonathan Collier was born in Boston. After graduating from Harvard University, he got his start in the television business in the early 1990s writing for the short-lived "Married...with Children" spinoff show "Top of the Heap," starring Matt LeBlanc, Joey Lauren Adams, and Rita Moreno. The show only lasted seven episodes. A brighter future nevertheless awaited Collier as a writer and producer on the animated powerhouse "The Simpsons" from 1993 to 1998. Collier also worked on the first five seasons of the long-running, similarly followed animated program "King of the Hill" as a writer and consulting producer. After leaving to work on other projects and form with others a company specializing in web television animation intended to challenge traditional media programming, giving more freedom to creative artists, Collier eventually returned to "King of the Hill" for the eighth season as an executive producer. Collier has also written and produced numerous episodes for the comedy detective series "Monk" and "King of the Hill" creator Mike Judge's ill-fated animated program "The Goode Family."
