A mystery-of-the-week series following Charlie Cale, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. She hits the road in her Plymouth Barracuda and with every stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes she can't help but solve. Guest stars are plentiful throughout, from Ellen Barkin and Adrien Brody to Luis Guzmán and Chloë Sevigny. An inverted detective series, also known as a "howcatchem" and popularized by "Columbo," the crime and perpetrator are shown at the beginning of each episode, and follows Charlie as she tries to solve the mystery.

Instead of reshuffling its winning formula, Poker Face's second season doubles down on the winning virtues of its predecessor and scores a jackpot.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) In each adventure, Poker Face captures a truth of the human experience, but it’s also entertaining as hell. May 27, 2025 Full Review Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya Autostraddle I won’t spoil the specifics of the premiere’s murder or how Charlie eventually solves it, but the fuel keeping the pacing and story burning at every twist and turn is absolutely Erivo. May 12, 2025 Full Review Benji Wilson Daily Telegraph (UK) But even though there’s always a murder and a new small-town sign to tell you you’re somewhere new each week, the format that TV jettisoned a few decades back feels, ironically, fresh and exciting. Rated: 4/5 May 10, 2025 Full Review Sarah Knight Adamson Sarah's Backstage Pass I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the show from the beginning as I appreciate the creative writing that’s involved, and watching the outstanding actor Natasha Lyonne, and get a kick out of seeing the guest stars. Rated: 4/4 May 21, 2025 Full Review Tim Stevens The Spool It’s difficult to resist getting swept up by [Poker Face Season 2]. And, honestly, why would you try? May 20, 2025 Full Review Jonathan W. Hickman The Newnan Times-Herald And by putting Cale on the road in a classic 1969 sky-blue Plymouth Barracuda, “Poker Face” is like a bridge to television’s golden past. Marc L. Poker Face is by far one of my favorite shows on TV. I look forward to it every week. It’s an excellent modern take on the classic mystery format that showcases Rian Johnson’s storytelling skills perfectly. Natasha Lyonne brings real charm and depth to Charlie Cale, a drifter with an ability to detect lies, making her both compelling and relatable. Each episode delivers a satisfying standalone mystery with clever plotting and strong guest performance: Benjamin Bratt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Chloë Sevigny, Ron Perlman, Judith Light, Ellen Barkin, Cynthia Erivo, John Mulaney, Awkwafina, Method Man, David Alan Grier, Margo Martindale, Justin Theroux, Kumail Nanjian…the list goes on. Johnson manages to create stories that are genuinely intriguing without becoming overly complex, and the show has a warm, engaging tone that balances humor with genuine emotion. The production feels polished and thoughtful, giving each location and character real personality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review K M. Season 2 episode 1 disappointed, but episode 2 looks more promising. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Audience Member It has a few good episodes/stories. But overall, not as good as season 1. Honestly, even Season 1 had some hit or miss stories. The stories could be better and cleverer on this show. The one with the little girl in Season 2 seemed strained. The one episode that stood out for me in Season 1 was where a murderess had a bust of her dead husband made. That one was creepy and imaginative, a bit 'Tales from the Crypt'-ish. More like those would be nice. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Ella S This was a tough one, I wanted to watch it because Natasha Lyonne is brilliant, but I'm not touching anything Rian Johnson touches with a ten foot pole thanks. Nope. Nope nope nope. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Markus W What a colossal disappointment! Is Rian Johnson even still behind this season? It feels like a completely different show: sillier, lazier, more confusing, and a whole lot less clever than Season One. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Nick S. We love the humor and mechanics of this show. Episodes where the "rewind" doesn't play out as exact as you think, are better. The guest stars are so fun in each episode.
