Best known as the co-creator of the classic sitcom "I Love Lucy," television writer Madelyn Davis was born on March 15, 1921, in Indianapolis. She graduated from the Indiana University School of Journalism in 1942, and began writing commercials for Indiana radio. Her family's move to California allowed Davis to land writing jobs with NBC and CBS; it was at CBS Radio that she began working with Bob Carroll, Jr. The two formed a writing partnership that would last for over half a century. They produced a script for Lucille Ball's radio show "My Favorite Husband" and ended up writing for the show during the whole of its two and a half year run. They were also involved in the creation of the "I Love Lucy" television series and produced scripts both for it and the many "Lucy" series that followed (including the '80s series "Life with Lucy" and a Polish adaptation called "Kocham Klane"). Davis and Carroll also wrote for "The Paul Lynde Show," "Those Whiting Girls," and the films "Forever, Darling" (1956) and "Yours, Mine and Ours" (1968), both of which starred Lucille Ball. Davis is today considered a pioneer who helped open up the field of television writers to women. In 2005 she published her memoir, "Laughing with Lucy."
