Maurizio Marchetti
A burly actor with an instantly identifiable fleshy nose and arched eyebrows, Maurizio Marchetti specializes in character roles portraying men--often with a dark side--who are in positions of authority. He made his film debut with a small role in the 1990 erotic drama "Visioni private," a film which, oddly, also featured the legendary dancer Cyd Charisse playing herself. Other than a single guest appearance on the crime procedural "Il giudice istruttore" in 1990 and the little-seen short "I racconti di Baldassarre" in 1997, Marchetti kept a low profile for the rest of the 1990s, but the following decade found him working more steadily in both film and television. Roles such as a doctor in the knockabout comedy "Le sciamane" and a forbidding Sicilian grandfather in the romantic drama "L'amore di Màrja" typified his output at the dawn of the 2000s, but as the decade progressed, he graduated to meatier supporting roles in films and key guest star spots on popular TV series like the police dramas "Il commissario" and "Detective Montalbano" as well as the atmospheric mystery "Nebbie e delitti." He also began working in TV movies during this period, including a key role in the Sicilian Mafia drama "La vita rubata," based on a true story, and the romantic 1920s period piece "The Swing Girls."
