Scenarist with a gift for small, offbeat films, notably Jonathan Demme's "Handle With Care/Citizens Band" (1977). Brickman made his directing debut, from his own script, with the slick summer hit "Risky Business" (1983) and followed it seven years later with a finely observed familial comedy-drama, "Men Don't Leave" (1990), based on the French film "La vie continue" (1982).
