Birthday: Aug 3, 1924

Birthplace: New York, USA

Writer-producer R.S. Allen was integral part of 1970's American TV culture, working as a producer on the 1970-72 seasons of "Love, American Style," the forgotten syndicated family drama "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" starring Tom Bosley from 1973 through 1974, and "Alice" in 1976-77. Allen worked his way up to this run through a long line of late 1950s and 1960s sitcom writing credits--everything from "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gomer Pyle" to "The Flintstones." When television came on the scene in the 1950s, it gradually took the place of the old B-movie production line at the Hollywood studios. While the studios continued to produce A-list pictures through the 1960s, and independent American cinema took over in the 1970s, people like Allen benefited from the clockwork-like machinations of the TV industry during those days. He moved effortlessly from one show to another, able essentially to work in any assigned and/or available genre.
