One of the creative forces behind the U.K. independent film production company Working Title, producer Sarah Radclyffe helped spearhead some of the most inventive British movie projects of the 1980s and 1990s. A former collaborator of visionary filmmaker Derek Jarman, Radclyffe worked on many of the late director's earliest feature films, including his visually stunning 1979 adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and "Caravaggio" (1986), a fictionalized biopic about Baroque painter Michelangelo Caravaggio. In 1984, along with partner Tim Bevan, Radclyffe founded Working Title, which became a hotbed of young and emerging British filmmaking talent. Radclyffe's first major success as a producer was director Stephen Frears' powerful 1985 social drama, "My Beautiful Laundrette," which she followed with other successes, including the 1987 comedy "Sammy and Rosie Get Married" and the lavish 1998 adaptation of "Les Misérables." In 1993, after Polygram acquired Working Title, Radclyffe established her own company, Sarah Radclyffe Productions.
