Birthplace: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

New Orleans native Stacey Muhammad was born to be an artist and activist, speaking passionately about the lives of black women and men. Her first film, the documentary short "I Am Sean Bell: Black Boys Speak" (2009), was made in response to NYPD violence against black men. The short film opened some doors for Muhammad, and she managed to connect with actor Tim Reid, who mentored her while she herself mentored students at his Legacy Media Institute in Petersburg, VA. Reid was featured in her next project, the short film "For Colored Boys, the Evidence of Things Not Seen" (2011). Inspired by Ntozake Shage's choreopoem 'for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf,' the short was the launching point for her 2013 web series "For Colored Boys: Redemption" (2013). Muhammad's digital series tells the story of the struggles of a young black man, just released from prison. She also collaborated on the show with actor Isaiah Washington and popular media political contributor Marc Lamont Hill. The series received wide acclaim, and it was announced that Charles S. Dutton would be featured in the second season.
