Steven Kampmann is an actor, writer, and director best known for his role as Kirk Devane, the irritating liar on the television sitcom "Newhart." He tapped right into the cultural temperature of the 1970s and early '80s, hitting the funny bone as a writer for the celebrated sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati" before briefly contributing to the cult classic sketch-comedy show "SCTV" as a writer and scribe in 1981 and penning material for the comedy special "The Rodney Dangerfield Show: It's Not Easy Bein' Me." Kampmann would team-up with Dangerfield again, though this time for the big screen, co-writing the screenplay for "Back to School" with Harold Ramis. He wrote the screenplay for the Dan Aykroyd comedy "The Couch Trip," and added co-directing to the mix with the baseball drama "Stealing Home," starring Jodie Foster and Mark Harmon. In the 2000s, he returned from a decade of occasional and exclusively onscreen roles to write the Andy Dick comedy "Special Delivery" and to make his own independent film in "Buzzkill," about a struggling screenwriter who gets mixed up with a serial killer.
