Born in Surrey, British Columbia in 1990, Sydney Leroux was born into an athletic family. Her mother played third base for the Canadian National Softball Team and her father was a pitcher for the California Angels. At a young age, it became clear that soccer was her passion. Her freshman and sophomore years, she was the leading scorer on her high school soccer team, and in her junior year, she moved to Arizona, so she could compete to play on the United States Women's National Team. She played on the US Women's U-20 until 2000 and finished as the US all time leading scorer in the division. In 2012, she played on US Olympic team. She scored the second goal in the quarterfinal 2-0 win over New Zealand, helping the US team to the Gold Medal. Professionally, Leroux has played for the Seattle Sounders, Boston Breakers, Seattle Reign, Western New York Flash, and FC Kansas City. Her career with the USWNT lasted until 2015, during which time she scored 34 goals.
