After being hired for an aborted coup, a group of unscrupulous warriors is abruptly disbanded. One of the mercenaries, Martin (Rutger Hauer), is determined to get revenge on his dismissive employer, Arnolfini (Fernando Hillbeck). To carry out his plan, Martin abducts the lovely Agnes (Jennifer Jason Leigh), the intended wife of Arnolfini's son, Steven (Tom Burlinson). Soon Martin and Steven are locked in an ongoing battle to see who will ultimately win the hand of Agnes.

A highly entertaining movie, depicting an episode from the year 1501. Its B movie quality not only doesn't hurt this movie, but it adds to its charm. You will find here all the features that you would expect from this kind of movie from the 80's, a lot of nudity from the beautiful Jason Leigh, a lot of cheesy action, many vulgar scenes, some nice performances, especially from the charismatic Rutger Hauer; but at the same time to enjoy this film properly one shouldn't demand much from it.

Phenomenal!! You will not be bored. This is an excellent film by Verhoeven who works his intellectual commentary into the film so well that many people will not be able to see it. I loved this movie and would watch it again.
