A magical board game unleashes a world of adventure on siblings Peter and Judy Shepherd. While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. When they start playing, they free Alan Parrish, who's been stuck in the game's inner world for decades. If they win Jumanji, the kids can free Alan for good, but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos!

Critics Consensus

A feast for the eyes with a somewhat malnourished plot, Jumanji is an underachieving adventure that still offers a decent amount of fun for the whole family.

This is an entertainment in the broad Hollywood tradition of Capra and Spielberg, with a boisterous touch of Peter Pan in that the stern father figure and the scary villain are both played by the same actor. Go to Full Review

The technology both overwhelms the human cast and stalls the narrative drive. Even Williams's manic energy finally flags. Go to Full Review

Maps G @mapsgill 1d A classic for its time. There's no way this movie is anything less than an 80%. I'd rate it 87% myself. A fun story, fun characters, high rewatchability, good enough acting for a kid's movie. See more Joe U. @ACSolarski 1d How is this not in the 90th percentile? One of my favorite movies ever. See more Mikee F. @MikeeFoppa 3d I liked it when it came out and Williams did a great job lifting this move. Very entertaining movie. See more Virtue H Nov 5 This film came out when I was 8 and its one of the reasons I'm glad I grew up when I did. This dark, sometimes scary adventure film packs a punch for young audiences. I grew up in an age where kids weren't too delicate (I'm sure kids now are still not as delicate as some parents think they are) to enjoy the likes of Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? and enjoyed a thrill and Jumanji fits perfectly within the parameters of 90s childhood. I enjoy it now, not only for the nostalgia, but the performances of all the actors and the demonic boardgame itself. They just don't make movies like this gem anymore. See more Andy C Oct 16 Back when movies had peak writing See more Jordan P Oct 10 Like Jurassic Park 10/10 if you like a fun and exciting plot with a combination of 90s CGI & practical effects that bring me right back to childhood! This movie is just scary enough for me! Gotta love Robin Williams. Baby Kirsten Dunst is also good. This movie has Spielbergian slapstick physics too. See more Read all reviews
