Wayne K Had I known that Dead Birds was a film from the noughties, I would have gone in with lower expectations and been less disappointed when it was over. It was not a good period for the horror genre, when practical effects were dismissed in favour of horrible CGI, and tension and atmosphere building were cast aside to make way for a succession of cheap, irritating jump scares. Dead Birds does, admittedly, do more to establish a feeling of foreboding than many other films of its ilk, but the way it’s done often renders the film hollow and inert. So many slow camera shots of the same building and the same cornfield, occasionally interrupted by repetitive and mundane conversations between what the film considers characters. The film’s supernatural threat is poorly explained and even more poorly worked into the story, and most of the time its just an excuse to have random people pop up and flash computer animated demon faces before vanishing. I’ve never understood movie monsters of this kind, because pretty much none of what they do actually causes harm, it just freaks the characters out. Despite the few things it does right, the film ultimately winds up being just another 2000s horror flick, with all the groanworthy cliches, both in story and production, that made the decade such a dead zone for scary cinema. Save yourself the time, and patience, and watch something else. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 A very well made Horror Movie with great special effects. I love horror movies involving old houses and the history of that home. Tim Treakle Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Ricardo d Um bom filme de terror. Tem uma trama interessante e um fim com um plot. Tem alguns erros de montagem e os personagens são bem rasos, mas nada que prejudique a diversão se você assistir de forma despretensiosa. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/24 Full Review colin m Three stars. It was okay. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Save yourself some time. If you're a fan of the genre (especially the "Western Horror" subgenre) then this one is probably just going to disappoint. It's slowly paced - a common attribute of Westerns, so tolerable - but lacking scares when they finally come, which isn't a great combo. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Movie was alright. Nothing special but it passed the time. Cgi wasn't that great either but it was only 2004 after all.
