Andrew W A Slice Of Life In Barcelona is a sprawling unpredictable drama about life on the edge. Taking place in (You guessed it) the Spanish capital of Barcelona were thrown head first into a nihilistic landscape populated by punks, kleptomaniacs, deadbeat dads and psychopath's all in search of an escape from their lives and looking in all the wrong places. I feel like if author Brett Easton Ellis was born in Spain in another life his books would be like this as i noticed the similarities as pessimism and dark comedy go hand in hand in each scene. The rugged documentary feel almost makes you feel like a reluctant accomplice to the characters on their misadventures across the city. A Slice Of Life In Barcelona has a lot going on with multiple characters and storylines it would easy for the film to go off the rails but writer and director Maria Galindo runs a tight ship holding the story together particularly in the films final act where the city becomes smaller and the characters finally cross each others paths and face the consequences of their actions. All in all underneath the violence obscenity and destruction I found A Slice Of Life In Barcelona at its core to be a vulnerable story about people longing for human connection. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Rick I Linklater meets 80's Punk Rock Ok, this movie may not be for everyone, but if it is for you, you're going to really like it. Settle in early, cause the first half of this movie is a hangout movie straight from the late 80's, early 90's. At times it feels more like a documentary than a narrative due to the cinematography style and the performances that seem more like real life than anything that could be written. I wonder how much of this may have been improvised, it's that grounded. There's not a ton of plot, not a ton of character development. What there is a lot of is rock music and bad behavior. After a few coincidences at the midway point, this thing takes a turn toward left field in a big way. By the end the chance meetings, character choices, and surprises feel almost shakespearean. It can be tough to watch bad people start to realize maybe they aren't as rotten to the core as we all thought, only to again self sabotage their lives over and over again. It's shockingly real and saddening. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/21/22 Full Review Kris Y A Slice of Life in Barcelona is a gritty, dark drama that has a bit of an old school vibe and a fearlessness to it that is not like most movies. It thrives in the darkness and dark places of Barcelona streets and shows us the city's seedy side. It is not made to uplift the audience and feels bleak at times but it does have its qualities. It is a cautionary tale and a daring look at the abuses of various vices much like the movie Requiem For A Dream. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/22 Full Review Audience Member I was quite taken by surprise by this gritty gem of an indie movie. It's obviously a modestly budgeted feature film but, at times, it felt like I was watching a documentary. The gritty street-level story sucked me in and immersed me in the world exposing me to the personal hell being experienced by the characters. Speaking of which, the film is well-acted, directed and photographed. If you like indie films, urban dramas AND foreign film, this one is worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Exactly what the title says. A lovely indie movie for the weekend! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review william w Nicely done movie. Beautifully shot touching tale of struggle and making relationships work. The acting was excellent and the story solid.
