Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times On paper, a 90-minute documentary involving the playing of a 3,000-year-old Chinese board game wouldn't seem to lend itself to adjectives like "lively" and "compelling," but darned if Greg Kohs' "AlphaGo" isn't those things and more. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2021 Full Review Rob Aldam Backseat Mafia A thrilling documentary which pits man versus machine in a battle for superiority over an ancient Chinese game. Nov 3, 2018 Full Review Joshua Speiser Film Threat Rather than playing up the fears of man's imminent obsolescence in the face of artificial intelligence, the filmmakers instead elevate this doc to one that uses Go as a platform to explore and comment on the human condition. Heng S Lee won every contest since his battle with AlphaGo in which he won only once with just one move gifted as from God. If you treat it as him, he just made every move to win, but win as least as he could. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Leaburn This film was good 👍🏼 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Nate M Wow! Just wow A riveting documentary about the first time an Artificial Intelligence computer defeated a human opponent in the asian game of Go. I wanted the computer to win. And it did win the first 3 out of 5 games. But then, I wanted the human to win! And he did win the 4th game. But then the computer won the 5th game. The computer won 4 to 1. Sooo exciting! i felt like I do when watching a great football game or boxing match. But this was not a 'game'. It was the beginning of AI computers taking over from people. First, a computer beat a chess master. Then, a computer won on Jeopardy. We're entering a new world, baby. And I don't think we'll be in Kansas much longer, Toto. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Smriti M Can I give it more than 5 stars because this was so good!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review renaldo d One of the best sports documentaries ever made, the edition manages to bring us frustration and triumph in impeccable ways. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Not sure if it's just because I watched Dune and the idea of Mentat's reminded me of Lee Se Dol and this movie. History is written mostly by people I have no respect for, but I respect 이세돌 greatly. On the biggest stage against increasing pressure and decreasing odds in his favor, he persevered and found a weakness and exploited it. Move 78 will not be forgotten by me at least. Great documentary, even though I first watched it back in 2017, it still give me feels. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
