The film is well directed. It is well acted. Mikkelsen is always as compelling as his cheekbones. But it's so muddled in its thinking -- alcohol is good; no, it's bad... but good -- that it ends up with nothing of value to say.

Ever watch a movie and enjoy it, but are unable to explain why? That’s how I feel about Another Round, Thomas Vinterberg’s film about four teachers who decide to follow a Norwegian psychologist’s theory that humans operate more effectively with a blood alcohol content of .05%. Is it the moral ambiguities presented that are problematic? Maybe…I don’t know. Is it the fuzzy messaging the movie presents? Could be…again, I don’t know. Here are three things that I do know, though – 1) the writing is excellent, 2) Mads Mikkelsen is fantastic, as always (his dance at the end is great), and 3) I, for some reason, liked it…but feel as though I shouldn’t…and I don’t know why.

Original screenplay and well acted. Especially love Mads M. He is always so interesting to listen to and watch. Be sure to watch the very end. Mads does a crazy funny dance scene. Movie has lot of laughs but also deep moments. It's good. Best part, no guns and bombs going off.

Why four reasonably intelligent men would think being drunk all the time would improve their lives is beyond me. In fact, it leads to some predictably dire consequences, but they gave a good time getting there. I enjoyed watching them get there.
