Critics Consensus

Take one part deftly directed tragicomedy, add a dash of Mads Mikkelsen in vintage form, and you've got Another Round -- an intoxicating look at midlife crises.

Christina Newland iNews.co.uk Mads Mikkelsen is on vintage form in this boozy tale of family and masculinity. Rated: 4/5 Sep 23, 2024 Full Review Charles Bramesco Inside Hook The last shot of this film [is] as indelible as any you'll find... Sep 21, 2021 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator The film is well directed. It is well acted. Mikkelsen is always as compelling as his cheekbones. But it's so muddled in its thinking -- alcohol is good; no, it's bad... but good -- that it ends up with nothing of value to say. Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round dances on the ledge between tragedy and comedy, chaos and clarity. Rated: 4/4 Jul 12, 2025 Full Review Calum Cooper Flick Feast Another Round is as fun and life-affirming as it is splendidly realised and crafted. Much like catching up with a great friend over pints in the pub, you can’t help but want more of it. Rated: 5/5 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net ANOTHER ROUND could easily have become a paean for navel-gazing self-discovery... Instead, it’s soulful and tender, never judging its leads even as they wreck themselves in pursuit of something nonexistent. Rated: 5/5 Jul 5, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Kimmo K A great story about how alcohol can offer so much but can also lead down a dangerous path. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/07/25 Full Review Dave S Ever watch a movie and enjoy it, but are unable to explain why? That’s how I feel about Another Round, Thomas Vinterberg’s film about four teachers who decide to follow a Norwegian psychologist’s theory that humans operate more effectively with a blood alcohol content of .05%. Is it the moral ambiguities presented that are problematic? Maybe…I don’t know. Is it the fuzzy messaging the movie presents? Could be…again, I don’t know. Here are three things that I do know, though – 1) the writing is excellent, 2) Mads Mikkelsen is fantastic, as always (his dance at the end is great), and 3) I, for some reason, liked it…but feel as though I shouldn’t…and I don’t know why. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Ketemama B Original screenplay and well acted. Especially love Mads M. He is always so interesting to listen to and watch. Be sure to watch the very end. Mads does a crazy funny dance scene. Movie has lot of laughs but also deep moments. It's good. Best part, no guns and bombs going off. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Justin S Would have been way better if it was a 90 film of Mads Mikkelsen dancing. That was an inspired scene. The rest? Not so much. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Andrei D Mads rocks but the B and C plots are pretty light and the entire movie ramps up too quickly and never truly engages with consequences Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review acsdoug D Why four reasonably intelligent men would think being drunk all the time would improve their lives is beyond me. In fact, it leads to some predictably dire consequences, but they gave a good time getting there. I enjoyed watching them get there. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
