Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston) loses everything after his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), now an officer in the Roman army, returns to Jerusalem and accuses the young prince of treason. Stripped of his title and separated from his wife (Nazanin Boniadi) and family, Ben-Hur must endure years of slavery on a galley at sea. When fate brings the estranged brothers to an epic and deadly chariot race, Ben-Hur finally gets the chance to exact vengeance on the man who destroyed his life.

The decision to film the major set-pieces in extreme close-up was ill-advised, and these murky and incoherent bits are further crippled by obvious CGI as well as rapid-fire editing that recalls those Ginsu blades in action on late-night infomercials.

I hated the animal cruelty in the 1959 version, but this entire film is poorly done. Terribly script with filming that is boring. The sound is so uneven I could not hear dialogue, then blasted with music or yelling.

The narrator is very annoying, telling obvious things at the end and stupid things at the beginning. Not very believable story and some scenes are exaggerated. The relation of Ben Hur with his wife is absurd in few scenes.

Having never watched the original, this is now an all time favourite movie of mine. The story is just so good and touching and makes you want to forgive others. I feel so touched. Sure there are historical inaccuracies but we give them artistic license.
