RICK S Jun 1 Don't understand the low Rotten Tomatoes rating. The film is 90 years old and holds up very well. Great photography and atmosphere. Fay Wray is fine as usual. Could have used a younger, handsome male lead (Buster Crabbe would have been great). The movie has some tinted scenes; the sepia ones are a big plus. the green and blue ones a big minus. See more 06/16/2021 Don't get me wrong, it's a really good film - Fay Wray, luminous as ever; Fat Jack Holt as our hero; but we establish our 1930s racism from the go: Dorothy Burgess banging native drums because she was one of only two whites on an island of blacks; now they want her back! "The natives are restless". Sacrifice, voodoo, black magic, the islanders labelled 'monkey chasers', It just keeps playing on white people's fear of the black man...
