Don Willmott Filmcritic.com Brief Crossing is brief indeed, but it packs several gut punches along the way. Make this a date movie, and you'll have plenty to talk about when it's over. Cyril Joyce A eventhough this woman leave him all alone without some consideration thinking its just a infatuation makes this boy remarkably broke in his first experience with female, hey single mom you did your part where to leave him alone cause he's too young to be with you at that age mehh, Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It must have been ten years or so when I saw this film for the first time. It opened up my thirst for European indie cinema, and "little movies" in general. It made me realize that there is not only mainstream out there, and that you can follow a film completely, even it is enriched with complexity. Until now, I have seen this film only once, but it always stayed with me. Not only the (for a male teenager) fantasy of a teen hooking up with an older woman, but because of the depth, and how much you were able to understand the female character after the "final twist". Seeing this film again, it brought me to embark on a journey that not just followed the 24-hour relationship without a future, but also my own past as an unwanted, unloved, unrequited teenager. Then and now, I can fully understand Thomas - his shyness at the beginning, his fascination during the midpoint, his disappointment at the end. Then and now, I am appalled by the behavior of Alice, even though she can't be blamed for anything. Alice let both of them live a fantasy they so desired for numbered hours, and then she brought both back to reality they did not want to return to. For a teenager (both in this film, and myself) it must be shocking in a way. As if you just realized that the fantasy is only reality in disguise. I was surprised to see that the film still holds up, even though it's not even 15 years old. I was also surprised to realize that I haven't changed much over the years. Because I am still unwanted, unloved, and unrequited like Thomas. He is the character that eventually translates into me for more than ten years. Like Thomas realized his disappointment at the end, so did I after realizing that reality still sucks. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member (***): Thumbs Up Catherine Breillat can usually make an interesting film out of simple themes and she succeeds yet again here. Strong performances from the two leads. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Between a 7/10 and 8/10, Breillat has succeeded in cooking up a brief encounter of sexual politics so erotically captivating that although plenty of evidence is strategically planted, one barely sees the punchline coming. Anyone who has experienced a fleeting encounter will detect the ring of truth. Brief Crossing is richly layered yet grounded through an unsympathetic approach, which makes it a compelling film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Reza K shallow ... just an ineffective manifest about relationship. even the erotism in the film didn't work out. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/10 Full Review Audience Member The old story of "Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and its a broken Hallelujah" meets "Love's an excuse to get hurt. And to hurt." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
