Benjamin Franz Film Threat Seek out #ChadGetsTheAxe if you want to dip your toe into the waters of slasher horror but don’t want a supremely scary one. Rated: 7.5/10 Sep 14, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Travis Bible’s debut feature does pretty well by its unpromising concept. Sep 14, 2023 Full Review Jeffrey Lyles Lyles' Movie Files A tremendous skewering of influencer culture, the temperamental adoration of followers and reality culture as well as just being a well-crafted horror film. Rated: 9.5/10 Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Peter Gray Brisbanista A serviceable horror flick with just enough unsettling atmosphere to cater to its audience – primarily those that would watch clips on Instagram or TikTok over the proper experience of intelligent terror on the big screen. Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) #ChadGetsTheAxe is a fun and freaky horror adventure with an unanticipatedly enjoyable cast. Grab your friends and settle in for a quick and scary stream. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 3, 2023 Full Review Sharai Bohannon Dread Central #Chadgetstheaxe is a pleasant surprise. It’s a scary, funny, smart wild ride that is a hell of a good time. It’s the kind of found footage movie that reminds us there is still so much more to do in this subgenre. Audience Member The film itself is amazing, enjoyable, and a good movie for those who don't want to commit to a horror/slasher life with still a lot of the aspects. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Dan C straight up boring. boring actors and very sad pathetic made up killer. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Whitney C Hell House LLC meets Deadstream. Well acted, great representation/critique of YouTube/Tiktok culture, and some genuine scares. The twists and turns were unexpected, and it’s definitely worth a rewatch to learn all the context of the cult hinted at in the comment section. This was a fun watch, and I’d definitely recommend it and will watch again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Mr. U Defiantly a sorry jab at the recent live stream horror movies, not funny, slow, bad acting, and much more Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Rob D A lesson in how execution is often the difference in success between two similar ideas... Deadstream and #Chadgetstheaxe came out the same year. I don't know who had the idea first, but both were eerie similar in that it involved douchey content creators livestreaming in an evil house in a remote area, a ways away from civilization. Both had sequences with the audience noticing a sinister presence before the streamer and trying to warn them in the comments. Both were almost the same length to within minutes. I loved Deadstream. I thought Chadgetstheaxe sucked. Deadstream was funny, largely due to Joseph Winter's commitment to the bit. But it also was effective from a horror perspective due to quickly establishing the mythos, creating a creepy atmosphere through simple set pieces, placing building blocks each scene, but not letting the pace drag. It's low-budget, but it makes good use of simple props and effects. #Chadgetstheaxe is just flat from the beginning. It seems to want to be attempting social commentary but nothing ever lands. The YA horror Nerve was also clunky in lampooning the deadly toxicity of anonymous internet users, but even that movie, as on the nose as it was, managed to at least land a few blows. By the fifth minute of Chad's viewers hoping he got killed or typing "FAKE!", it was like...yea, we get it. Also, zero atmosphere. They, too, quickly set up the mythos behind the house, but it was a bit less well-defined, with most of the exposition coming via an podcaster in the comments, attempting to eerily foreshadow what's about to happen...but it doesn't work. The comedy fails because while I believed Joseph Winter's as a streamer in over his head in Deadstream, Chad and Steve come across as a crude imitation of livestreamers, with stereotypes that seem at times a decade out of date. Once they reach the house, not only does it get predictable, it gets...blurry. Any of the actual moments of violence suddenly look like they were recorded on a Motorola flip phone, and they all feel rushed. They try a few moments of a predator recording himself stalking prey, but they're poorly executed and framed. The baddie has a very lame costume design, which doesn't help. A good 75% of the cast disappears with over half the movie left, rather than taking a more patient approach, so it quickly devolves into one scared guy's video blog and neither the actor or the director are up to the task of doing anything interesting with the time remaining. Overall, it's a meh from me Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review Andrea K Loved it! Not sure how this one flew under our radar for so long but I’m glad we found it! Definitely worth the time. Scarier than I expected AND had many moments of absolute comedy! 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
