Kiko Martinez San Antonio Current When you're a filmmaker and the only thing you really having going for your biopic on iconic actor and racecar driver Steve McQueen is the fact that your lead actor actually looks like Steve McQueen, you're in for a rude awakening. Audience Member Although it helped to know some history going in about Steve s life , I thought it was intriguing to see the interpersonal dialog and actions between the characters .. I know a substantial amount of info on Steve McQueen and thought Andre Brooks did a masterful job and looked quite a bit like him. I think he captured him very well. He would do well in any other biopic upcoming on McQueen but I'd like yo see him in other work as well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Andre Brooks cooly delivers a pitch-perfect embodiment of Steve McQueen in this fresh and well-constructed overview of a Hollywood acting legend's deep-seated, psychological struggles. The film is beautifully shot, the editing playful, rolling along at a well-paced, entertaining clip. Yet, much of the music soundtrack is ill-chosen, beset by an anachronistic, out of place feel. CHASING BULLITT would have benefited from a less contemporary sounding score, rather, embracing the musical sounds and tastes of the times could have only served to immerse the audience deeper into this taut tale of the late, great Steve McQueen's complex inner workings. In conclusion, well worth a watch and a solid thumbs up. Good Stuff, even if my melon was twisted by the under par score. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I rate this film with five stars. Admittedly I'm a huge Steve McQueen fan so I'm biased. I feel that Andre Brooks nailed the role of Steve, and his performance was very convincing. McQueen was a tortured soul who sought out integrity throughout his life. This film gives the audience an opportunity to gain insight into how Steve came to grips with mega-success while squaring it with humble beginnings. I would encourage viewers who had never even heard of Steve McQueen to give this a look. It's a fascinating journey into the inner workings of the mind of one of Hollywood's greatest stars. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was great! Andre Brooks shines as Steve McQueen! Excellent story line and execution. Great score as well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member 2 Stars (as opposed to 1/2 a star) is because I respect the fact that the Director and his collaborators seemed to have their collective heart in the right place. And the story itself happens to be very interesting to me because I'm someone who is very familiar with all of the historical aspects of this very specific (and narrow interest) story. In some ways, the movie is more ambitious and multifaceted than "Ford vs. Ferrari" (the recent '60's period "car movie" that became a surprise crossover hit, commercially and critically) in that it is covering material more personal and complex. Knowing too much about a given subject depicted in a film can always cramp and even totally ruin a great movie (doctor watching a doctor movie, ad exec watching a movie set in an ad agency, ex-soldier watching a so-called war movie, or .... a rabid, very-well-informed vintage car enthusiast watching a movie...like this one), but having inside-baseball knowledge when watching a particularly flawed movie can be torturous. But no need to tear the film limb by limb (especially because I'd need a giant centipede to do that chore any justice. So while indeed a greatly flawed piece of filmmaking, I do appreciate the effort of the "movie" part of the movie. And story is a lot more ambitious than the description of just "getting Steve's car from Bullitt back." But then there's the music... The worst - absolutely - worst part of the movie was the opening song. The song screams "NINETEEN EIGHTIES!!!!" which is a head-scratching way to start off a story that takes place within one of the most iconic and easily definable set-pieces imaginable - the 1960's. Especially when a fair degree of effort was expended to support and recreate the 1960's time period in the actual movie. And as far as this music is concerned, picture a 1987-era hair metal band from Pittsburgh that couldn't be bothered to move to Los Angeles – at a time when bands as bad Cinderella and Ratt and WASP could get a record deal. And since this is a story that will be primarily be interesting and relevant for people aged between about 58 and 78, it is even more of a mystery to start the movie off with a piece of music that would make a 40 year-old Gen-X'er wince in pain. The music so bad - and out of place - that I can only guess that one of the executive producers plays bass in the band. For anyone who is interested in the story itself, give it a try, but plug your ears tightly whenever you start to hear an electric "Rock" guitar sound. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Cinematic tour de force. Great Acting. Great Directing. It feels real; too real. No tabloids. No BS. - McQueen Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
