Audience Member What a strange animated film. It's originally French and the English voice actors are fairly respected (including Peter Ustinov & Denholm Elliot). The English version is trimmed by a half an hour. The original French is more in-depth, leaving the English version very fragmented and bizarre. The animation style is unique and creepy. It's based on a Hans Christian Anderson story and I'm sure kids who grew up with it, love it. But all in all, it's very half-baked. In a weird way, it's as if Dario Argento made an animated film. The finale featuring an Iron Giant must have clearly inspired Anime. And the opening, where the King tries to shoot birds, is beautifully disturbing.
