Perri Nemiroff Shockya.com A fantastically enjoyable and refreshing piece, nestling itself right between standard Hollywood high school hoopla and more unconventional explorations of teen troubles. Rated: 3.5/5 May 7, 2011 Full Review Joe Neumaier New York Daily News Goldbach fills the story with too many distractions, but Dennings, known for "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist," is feline and fun. Rated: 3/5 May 7, 2011 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times "Daydream Nation" rolls elements of "Juno," "American Beauty," "Donnie Darko" and "Twin Peaks" into a potent blunt. Rated: 3.5/5 May 6, 2011 Full Review Yasmin Shehab Cairo360 Yes, this film does rely rather heavily on clichés but it's very well acted and the dialogue rarely gets boring. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 28, 2017 Full Review Matt Joseph We Got This Covered All three leads do a good job and the film is visually appealing. As a director, Goldbach shows promise. Jonas S I've read some of the reviews by the audience and generally I agree that the film is superficial and disorganized; still -- it reminds me of my own fucked up teenage years in some ways and I cannot help but feel nostalgic and therefore somewhat joyful when watching it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review Bea W I wanted to like this more, but there was too much going on and none of it related to eachother. The ending felt cheap and throwaway. Why bother building this story and not having it go anywhere? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/14/24 Full Review Jacqueline K worst "movie" ever made. Josh Lucas should be ashamed. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Kat Dennings co-stars with Josh Lucas and Andie MacDowell in an indie film about daydreaming what life is supposed to be This girl Caroline's high school is a hunting ground for ridicule and social pariahs Everybody partakes in gossip and talking behind each other's backs There's even news of a serial killer on the loose but that's not the focus here Caroline is trying to survive this backwater town full of individuals who barely look out for each other She then befriends a stoner named Thurston but also has an affair with one of her teachers Caroline struggles to find her actual place in the world We all want to be somebody different, are we bowing to social pressure too much?, you can never tell what's good until later The effects for the smoke in the background engulfing the town are not very good and there can be too many side distractions in the narrative However this is well acted, has some snappy dialogue, and director Michael Goldbach shows a heady, queasy portrayal of a town heading into madness A movie that can explore the unconventional teen troubles Doesn't break new ground but shows some very good range for Kat Dennings Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member First off, Kat Dennings was 24 when she filmed this movie, too old to pass for a high school girl. To me it was ao obvious, a grown woman playing a girl. Didn't work. The story was OK, but there was too much going on. At the end, Caroline says, it was the year everything happened. Hardly, that was 2020. At the conclusion her teacher / lover all of a sudden turns psycho, her young lover goes off, the serial killer is killed, the two kids are lying on the floor holding hands (did we time travel?). What a mess. I think Holluwood just needs to make fewer movies, the glut has turned into excess mush. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Different type of movie about a girl who thinks she’s too cool for school so she dates a teacher in a small gossipy town . 2.9 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/29/20 Full Review Read all reviews
