donnie m to be fair-i have no idea what happens after the first b o r i n g 20 min. of bad acting and nothing to keep me watching.....turning the channel now.... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review V S Good plot, good cast. The sex scene ruined the whole movie for me. Huge disappointment, like the author of Blue is the Warmest Color said about the movie remake of her work, what that scene lacked was a lesbian in the room helping the directors. Totally unrealistic with porn-like details. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Steve D Unremarkable despite the strong acting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review PridePosterStudios Faith can you please stop getting in the way of a good time Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review cato k I liked the plot and how complex some arcs are in the movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Scott M It's slow. Very religious. Alessandro Nivola does an amazing job as rabbi Dovid. The two leading ladies do their best to carry the dull script. I skipped through most of it. Ben Sachs Chicago Reader From the very start [ilmmaker Sebastián Lelio] stacks the deck in favor of Weisz's secularized character, and as a result the Orthodox community becomes little more than the backdrop for a simple lesson about following your heart. Mar 25, 2020 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman Chilean director Sebastián Lelio lends this adaptation of Naomi Alderman's 2006 novel of the same name an outsider's curiosity... only a foreigner could bring this much lyricism to locations within spitting distance of the North Circular. Jan 26, 2019 Full Review Erin Sullivan Autostraddle I was informed by my viewing companion that I started to do the "wrap it up" hand motion before the credits even began to roll. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson The film repeatedly demonstrates that one of the best ways to build passion in a film is to present the implicit unspoken in a manor to outweigh explicit expression. The fates tempted here are subtly perilous. Rated: 4/5 Apr 7, 2024 Full Review Devika Girish Vague Visages Esti plunges herself into the terrifying uncertain place between obedience and disobedience, and it is her courage to stay there — to be defiantly out-of-sync — that powers Lelio’s arresting film. Feb 6, 2024 Full Review Denise Pieniazek Metacultura (AR) Disobedience takes a social minority, a Jewish community - and even more so, one with conservative beliefs - to expose the feelings of another minority, women, and more specifically of a third minority, lesbians.
