Tomás is a successful television producer. Specializing in investigative journalism, over the years he has made many enemies in Dublin's criminal underworld. In search of peace and quiet, he and his wife Siobhan take their baby son Oisín to their holiday home on a remote island off the north-west coast of Ireland. There they keep to themselves, avoiding interaction with the islanders. Early one morning, Tomás receives an urgent call from work and must return to the mainland, leaving Siobhan and Oisín on the island. Later that day he returns to find that they are both missing and, in desperation, seeks the help of the island's retired policewoman, Labhaoise. With warnings of an approaching storm, Labhaoise organizes a search party of islanders. The next morning they make a grisly discovery -- but it is not what they expected. Meanwhile, the storm is getting ever-closer to the island.

Chris Wasser Sunday Independent (Ireland) McCann’s film is all talk and little action. Nice set-up -- shame about the pay-off. Rated: 2/5 Feb 4, 2022 Full Review Siún Ní Dhuinn RTÉ (Ireland) What follows is a taut, threatening tale with plenty of twists and misconceptions about the roles people play in life versus who they really are. Rated: 4/5 Jan 28, 2022 Full Review Paul Whitington Irish Independent Doineann sets its stall out nicely in the opening half of the film, but as the plot unfolds, it seems insufficient to the task of sustaining a 90-minute feature. But it's very watchable. Rated: 3/5 Jan 28, 2022 Full Review Brian Lloyd entertainment.ie 'Doineann' is an enjoyable if easily predictable detective thriller set in a familiar environment with a strong performance by Bríd Brennan that is practically asking for a spin-off series. Rated: 3/5 Jan 27, 2022 Full Review Allan Hunter Screen International There is some fun to be had in figuring out what has happened, but the answers come too easily, loose ends are left hanging, and key characters feel underdeveloped. Anthony C If you set a Miss Marple thriller on Craggy Island, it might turn out similar to this. Overall enjoyable to watch, especially as an antidote to car chases and gunfights. However the denouement was a bit premature, and the finale was morally suspect. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/07/23 Full Review lynn k Really enjoyed this. My first Gaelic film. Beautiful scenery. Right level of suspense. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
