Mike McGranaghan Aisle Seat When it was over, I had the strong desire to run to my Nintendo Wii and play some Tetris. And isn't that exactly the reaction a movie like this should want to induce? Rated: 3/4 Aug 26, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The story of finding the world champion of Tetris - the history's most played videogame. Some very geeky fellas are followed and while one guy manages to gather them all we also see loads of archived clips and interviews as the weeks to the final shrinks into days. It's almost as interesting as it is geeky. All those names, tricks and facts about the game that for 99 per cent of all people are totally unheard of. It's hilarious, really. Dead serious hilariousness. It's fun to see the original creartor of the game and the buil up to the final are done pretty nicely. You kind of feel that you know most players in the final big eight sit down. I remember enjoying "The King of Kong" and this film is pretty close to it. Naturally the theme and plot is very similiar, but this has a bit more amatour-ish vibe. It has a lot of hard and a big, geeky wow-factor but also a lot of heart. 8 out of 10 four liners. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review sean l One of several niche-nuzzled documentaries to arrive within a very short period of time. Like "The King of Kong," Ecstasy of Order dedicates itself to an intensely-competitive corner of the video game world, albeit one without as polarizing a figure as Kong's infamous villain, Billy Mitchell. With no exception, each Tetris mega-mind to share this spotlight seems refreshingly earnest, friendly and down-to-Earth. These are guys and girls I wouldn't mind sharing a few beers with over a sticky NES control pad, and it's tough not to sit back, smile, and revel in the moment when they all get together for the very first time, several world records change hands and a spontaneous game of Texas Hold 'Em breaks out. In some ways, I think that's a symptom of the broadly different approaches of the two games: where Donkey Kong is about fire, death and imposition, Tetris is more in line with a timed jigsaw puzzle. It's quiet, inwardly-focused and nuanced, and thus so are its greatest players. Depending on the viewer's mentality, their ultimate enjoyment of the two films may vary appropriately. Sprinkled with a set of widely-varied contenders, more than its share of mysterious intrigue and the pointed quest to crown the world's best player in a first-ever champion's tournament, this is a startlingly arresting subject and a dense display of cerebral gamesmanship. Well worth watching. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member 'Overly geeky documentaries about competitive gaming' is slowly becoming one of my favourite genres in film. After 'The King of Kong' comes this documentary, not about Kong this time but about Tetris and the (often hilarious) brilliant minded geeks that compete for the title. Mesmerizing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Not as good as King of Kong, but if you've ever played Tetris, you'll probably get a kick out of it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked this movie, sort of reminded me of King of Kong......
