Rated: A Apr 17, 2015 Full Review Jason Anderson Sight & Sound Gyllenhaal faces the tricky task of conveying the subtle differences of two men whose identities are thrown into flux. The result is his most nuanced performance since playing another sleuth caught out of his depth in Zodiac. Jan 9, 2015 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) Enemy has morbid elegance to spare, which should guarantee it some long-term cult prestige. Rated: 3/5 Jan 4, 2015 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine Assessed on a level of tone and aesthetic, Villeneuve’s film is a stunning work. It is oppressive and unsettling, achieving Lynchian levels of discomfort and uncertainty. Rated: 6/10 May 7, 2025 Full Review Paul Kanieski KSQD Community Radio Enemy is brimming with non-commercial bravado that borders on being confessional. Just as Hitchcock made manifest his voyeuristic and controlling proclivities, Villeneuve exposes his own conflicted feelings towards women and monogamy. Mate P ***SPOILERS*** Enemy is a visually striking and quite an abstract movie. The writing is amazing, but abstract, which I wouldn't have been able to understand, because I takes things literally. So this is not really my type of film from the writing perspective. I didn't understand why the women characters behaved the way they did until I watched the explaining videos. On the other hand I love how the it's crafted. Every line has meaning. Anthony is so afraid of having unexpected variables in his life that he is driven towards the repeating pattern, the vicious cycle. The directing made sense after I knew what the movie really is about. The cinematography is gorgeous, the editing is great. It has slow pacing, but the film is quickly over because it's intriguing. The colour grading is phenomenal. The dominant colours of yellow, orange are rarely disturbed by blue, red or something else and then the character gets disturbed too. The production design is perfect. The casting is great, Jake Gyllenhaal's performance is outstanding. Enemy is an abstract film, which is not my type, but it does enough for me to enjoy it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Patrick G. 8.8/10 Carried heavily by gylenhaal or however u spell it. Cool interviews w him and writer director dude if u care to look it up. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review Rich B Stunning film. A wonderful mixture of Goddard, Clouzot, Fellini and a touch of Hitchcock. Stylish without being shallow, an English language film with a European sensibility. I have never seen Toronto look so impressive yet intimidating. Jake Gyllenhaal commands this film with charm, vulnerability and grace, a showcase for the immensely talented actor he is. So annoyed I missed this on release, but now I have seen it and it’s a film I will watch again and again to get all the nuances. A masterpiece from the powerhouse talent that is M. Villeneuve. Impeccable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Jurassic P Great film! Extremely confusing but it's still somehow great! I guess that's because the more you watch it the more you actually understand... Although for me, I did have to watch a YouTube video explaining it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Nick E Seeping with atmosphere, Enemy is a well-directed psychological thriller. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Zachary S Very slow burner, do not watch if your looking for action. However, I found this film very intriguing trying to figure out the ambiguity of the plot line. Without wanting to spoil the film for anyone else, it didn't really make sense to me until the end and I reviewed the film with my wife. Plot line really is the interesting part, and there were 100 different ways it could have gone. Jake Gyllenhaal showed his skills playing two different roles and some of the production and scenic shots were stunning. Average film, with an average rating.
