my attention span isn't the best and i often have trouble sitting through a 90 mins film so it was with some trepidation that i approached mariano llinas' 4 hour argentine epic, but i needn't have worried. this unique, amazing film has now become my favorite road movie. and it's much more than that. some compare it to a novel, by the likes of pynchon or borges, but it explodes narrative conventions in indescribable ways, without ever losing the audience. interweaving the stories of three men in a number of genres (thriller, romance, adventure, war film) with wonderful music selections, the film was made extremely low budget by this film professor and his students and became a sensation on the festival circuit but as yet has no dvd release in any english speaking country. however it's the most entertaining thing i've seen in ages and i could easily watch four more hours of this. mysterious and wonderful and unlike anything else you've seen. also the date should be 2008

OK. Itâs like this. You are about to sit through a film, it is 245 minutes long, you will follow three stories of three people, you will not know their names, but you will have a narrator telling you everything that is happening, everything that will happen, everything that just happened. This film will feel like both a video game and an audio book, you will not merely sit there and watch, you will be part of the storytelling process, any errors made by the characters will probably be corrected by the narrator, so donât you worry. During your film construction you may experience deliriousness, excitement, sadness, happiness, but make sure you concentrate, it wonât wait for you, or maybe it will, it all depends on the how the film is feeling today.

Despite its overall running time of 4 hours (!) it is a film that manages to keep the viewer's attention throughout. A masterfully woven collection of three stories (and a further few subplots) with only a limited amount of dialogues- it is mostly narrated, but in a very intelligent way. Said to have been done on a tight budget, it captures the essence of filmmaking at its best, when the story is all that matters, in rich detail.

"The road will take you away."
