Rated 1.5/5 Stars •  Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review jon c This rips off every other sci-fi masterpiece then again it's a Roger Corman production You wouldn't expect anything less Directed by Allan Holzman a group of researchers in space are set to find a cure to prevent food crisis in the galaxy They find an alien life form named Subject 20 on the planet Xarbia They study it, analyze it, and break down its biology forming it into something else from a synthetic DNA strand of their own making Bad news: it's mutating into something monstrous and starts killing off the researchers one by one This thing keeps changing its genetic structure as well This flick has tons to offer from gross special effects, gratuitous sex and nudity, and monstrous creatures It's laughable how much it imitates Ridley Scott's 'Alien' right down to the black pill looking Xenomorph Corman burrows heavily from '2001' and 'Star Wars' respectively if in the most laughable way It's true we can play God, give life but in the end some of it won't behave This production has a low budget for sure but that is part of the fun to be had Much of the music is synthesized jazz too I would definitely recommend epileptics to stay away as there is a lot of fast-cut editing and lights flashing Thankfully it disposes with the dull exposition you'd come to expect from most sci-fi flicks and delivers the goods if you're in the mood for fun B-movie vibes Amusing, gruesome, and cheaply entertaining for a throwaway viewing Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Matthew D Corman gives us creature-feature fans exactly what we're looking for. Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/21 Full Review Audience Member According to director Allan Holzman he began shooting without a script and received these directions from producer Roger Corman: "You have four days to write, produce and direct a seven to eight minute opening of a space movie… I'll give you an astronaut and a robot, and if you need any inspiration, I've always wanted to do a version of Lawrence of Arabia in outer space." From schlocky New World Pictures, this low-budget sci-fi flick is essentially a bland knockoff of "Alien." A space Marshall arrives at a research facility where "Subject 20" has escaped and soon begins killing off the crew members one-by-one. There are no name actors to speak of, unless you count character actor Jesse Vint in the lead. And if you thought Sigourney Weaver's final girl underwear scenes at the end of Ridley Scott's "Alien" were exploitative, wait until you get a load of unnecessary nudity in this knockoff! According to director Allan Holzman, just about everything in the movie was recycled from previous Corman productions except for the jumpsuits on the actresses; reusing the same film sets designed by James Cameron from "Galaxy of Terror" and effects footage from the space battle in Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars." Interestingly, director Allan Holzman would later become an Emmy and Peabody award winning documentary filmmaker and continues to make documentaries to this day, but you're not going to see a future Errol Morris as a result of viewing this film.
