Georgan G A real stinker from disc 5 of the 50 SciFi Classics Pack. The worst part was a segment of many characters wandering around in a sandstorm for minutes on end. Featuring plenty of beautiful babes, creative creatures and, of course, the muscle-bound Herc. The ending leaves more than a few questions unanswered, but - hey - *SPOILER* - Hercules saves the day AND gets the girl in the end. Do we expect anything less? Strap those sandals tight and sharpen that sword: this silly but truly enjoyable flick makes for great adventure that will leave few genre fans disappointed. Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member As the new MST3K Netflix original was being promoted I decided to expose myself to some of the old episodes available for streaming on Hulu and Netflix (there is a different random selection on each platform). Whether it is Joel or Mike watching these awful movies with the bots I do not envy the torture they are put through. Their snarky comments add some entertainment value, but my ratings are based on the movie's quality itself and not the extra material broadcast from the satellite of love. The Italian Hercules cycle of films throwing the Greek/Roman hero into further out-there adventures is another sub-genre the boys love to skewer. It was difficult to sit through the cheesy effects and the absurd plot. The rock monster costumes actually look pretty good, but are cumbersome for the stunt guys to fight in, while the moon men costumes are completely awful. Alan Steel nè Sergio Ciani with his oiled muscles played Hercules at least a half dozen times. Everything about this is cheap. For generations, the moon men have demanded that the people of Samara sacrifice their children to them. Fed up, a group of citizens recruit Hercules (Sergio Ciani aka "Alan Steel") to help them get rid of the moon men. However, the Queen of Samara has struck a secret deal with the moon men. She will give them her sister, who they will use to resurrect their dormant queen and conquer the Earth. In exchange, they will make the Queen of Samara super powerful. She doesn't want Hercules to interfere, so lots and lots of scheming and fighting occurs. I like this film. It's dumb, but it's dumb in a sort of 1980's sword & sorcery kind of way, and that's pretty good. The moon men are cool guys made out of rock. Hercules fights a fanged gorilla. There's lots of wacky coloured gels used to make scenes look cool. This was originally a Maciste film, but it was made into a Hercules film in North America because nobody here knows what a Maciste is.
