Fast times on the PGA Tour with former overnight sensation John Daly, who brought in an entirely new audience with his towering tee shots, penchant for smoking on the course and stunning, all-world mullet. It could be argued that he's the prototypical Happy Gilmore, although he was also his own Shooter McGavin.
Earnest and transparent, Daly makes no secret of his struggles, whether they be on the fairway or off, and shows tremendous candor in the modern-day interviews that drive this documentary. While on top of his game, he was a potent mix of ferocious power and an astonishingly soft touch, but when struggling with personal demons his game was a total disaster. We walk through his high points and his lows - victory at the PGA Championship and repeated, fruitless trips through rehab - but, even at a scant sixty minutes, the story feels stretched to fill time. A few bites short of a filling meal, in other words, and I'm not sure how much meat was left in the kitchen.
