Anton Bitel Sight & Sound combines a unique spin on the vampire myth with the fairytale surrealism of Lewis Carroll (via Svankmajer's Alice), the danse macabre of Copplia (via Argento's Suspiria) and the imagistic poetry of Franju's Eyes Without a Face. Nov 16, 2011 Full Review Scott Tobias AV Club Its internal logic eluded me on first viewing, but Maury and Bustillo compensate with the go-for-broke savagery and viscera that's come to define new French horror. Rated: B+ Sep 14, 2011 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A fun, creepy tale that echoes Argento's Suspiria. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 27, 2019 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Horror can be very effective when it makes the unlikely horrific, and that's often one of Livid's best features. Rated: 4/5 May 4, 2019 Full Review Simon Foster Screen-Space Livid tarts up a grab-bag of supernatural/kids-in-peril B-movie clichs with an arty pretension that grates. Jun 15, 2012 Full Review John Gholson Movies.com No one faults a spook house for lacking a strong narrative -- we want chills and thrills and an excess of horror imagery that borders on gaudy. In that way, Livid completely delivers. Feb 3, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Claudio C Livide / Livid (2011) A Creepy and Atmospheric Vampire Movie with Senseless Ending (11,782 – 23 Jun 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In the countryside of France, the caregiver Catherine Wilson (Catherine Jacob) picks the youth Lucie Klavel (Chloé Coulloud), who has heterochromia, in her first day of training as in-home nurse. They visit several elderly patients together and Lucie shows skills to handle them. On their last visit, Catherine asks Lucie to stay in the car since her patient is very complex. However, Lucie decides to snoop around the real estate and stumbles upon a derelict mansion. She enters the house and finds Catherine with a very old woman in a room on the last floor. Catherine tells Lucie that the woman, Mrs. Deborah Jessel (Marie-Claude Pietragalla), was a former wealthy ballerina and dance teacher, and now has a cerebral coma. Her only sister Anna (Chloé Marcq) died many years ago. Further, Catherine says that there is an urban legend that Mrs. Jessel has a hidden treasure in the house. At the end of the working day, Lucie meets her boyfriend William (Félix Moati) in a pub and tells him how her day was. When she mentions the hidden treasure, he calls his brother Ben (Jérémy Kapone) and plots to break into the mansion to search for the jewels and gold during Halloween night. Lucie is reluctant to go with them, but after a problem with her father, she decides to join them. They break into the mansion and soon their theft turns into a nightmarish night. “Livide”, a.k.a. “Livid” (2011), is a creepy and atmospheric French vampire movie with senseless ending. The plot has an excellent beginning, with magnificent cinematography and performances. The moment there is the flashback showing the relationship between Deborah Jessel and her daughter Anna, it becomes a little confusing. But when there is the switch of souls between Anna and Lucie, it becomes senseless until the last scene. The relationship of the caregiver Catherine Wilson with Deborah Jessel is never clear. Why does she supply human blood to the vampire? With a better conclusion, this movie could have become a masterpiece of the horror genre. My vote is six. Title (Brazil): “Livide” (“Livid”) My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review Courtney K this was fine; i enjoy the cover art more than the actual story, but it's a decent watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/08/23 Full Review Audience Member It was different, I'll give it that. The ballet angle was interesting. But the ending was a little too artful for this type of movie it feels. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't understand why the professional reviews of this movie are so toothless. To it's credit, there are some genuinely interesting sets and creepy ballerina monsters. While many horror movies are predicated on the characters making bad decisions... this one is above and beyond, to the point where it loses me. Regarding the antagonistic entity, the creators can't seem to "pick a lane" when it comes to establishing what it is -- creating goofy hodgepodge of elements when any one by itself could have been compelling. As such, the rules of this world don't seem coherent, and many of the shots and exposition just smack of ineffective pretensions. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review andy f After a bright start and an engrossing build up, when the horror element of this film takes off, it all gets a bit silly. The movie suffers from the "thats someone in make up, larking about" syndrome, after which it is hard to suspend disbelief. The weak ending only adds to the disappointment. A movie that you could tell the filmmakers think is better than it is. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Wasn't creepy or scary, and no jump scares, so wasn't my cup of tea. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
