Noel Murray Los Angeles Times "Look Away" mostly fails as a "killer teen" movie. The pace is too slow, and the mood too somber. Oct 12, 2018 Full Review Jose Solís Common Sense Media Director Assaf Bernstein's version of this in Look Away turns into a slow-paced horror film that aims for depth but delivers cheap thrills. Rated: 1/5 Nov 6, 2023 Full Review Chloe Leeson VultureHound It might not be the savviest horror ever made due to its juvenile messaging, but its clean and cold aesthetics and villainous characters just about manage to pull it through. Rated: 2/5 Apr 11, 2019 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film This is an interesting film whose serious problems shouldn't be allowed to eclipse the good work on display. Nevertheless, you may find it uncomfortable to watch, and not always in a good way. Rated: 3/5 Apr 10, 2019 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews An intriguing premise in search of a much better movie... Rated: 1/4 Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Gaspar Zimerman Clarín The film leaves an unpleasant puritanical aftertaste. [Full review in Spanish] Jan 24, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I am shocked that this movie is so poorly reviewed everywhere. Obviously this isn’t a masterpiece by any means, as I do think the film doesn’t milk the premise and potential of conversations and plot points enough, some conversations fall flat and weird and kinda leads the film to a “dumber” direction. Like especially conversations between Airam and Sean or with Maria and her dad and mom. But when I watched it, it was kinda obvious to me that this is a shot at a raw teenage diary or a supernatural phenomenon. So when all the people are complaining about how this movie is sick showing underage masturbation, sex, and nudity and rates the film a 1/10 I’m like ????? Obviously this isn’t real underage nudity and sex as the actors are well into their late 20s and even 30s??? 😭 it’s a movie that’s portraying very normal lives of teenagers?? And I don’t think there is anything wrong with portraying that, and I don’t think the movie is exploitative or overtly sexual. It is portraying the protagonist teenage girl fighting with her own body image, self love, and relationships with others. So I just think it’s unfair to take off so many points because one is uncomfortable with sex scenes and fail to see past the point of the movie (a film about a lonely and growing teenager), especially many films and shows have portrayed underage sex for the longest time (ex. Euphoria the show is an example). I do think the film can be a bit boring and doesn’t cut to the chase sometimes, but it is gripping enough and the plots are still there where I would wanna sit through the whole thing. Anyways, I absolutely loved the premise of the movie and its portrayal of struggling with teenagehood like depression, anxiety, body image, self love, bad parents, and your peers surpassing you while you feel helpless. I think these points were portrayed whether or not it was flushed out or accurate to real life mental illnesses. With that said, I do think the film did nail the main points and really did try. It definitely made me ponder and think after the movie which I consider as a good enough of a thriller. 7.5/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Joseph G Beautifully made in terms of its cinematography. India carries this film with her wonderful acting, her supporting cast does a great job. The film has an unfortunately anticlimactic ending. The sub plot about a twin sister was confusing. I liked India, her acting was great with becoming a different person and she had a lot of great scenes as the mirror character. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Jonathan The thought they were really doing something here. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Tyler B The idea of a reflection becoming something haunting is cool enough to get you through the subpar story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review Justin T For a film with such a boring and forgettable title this was actually really good. It was engaging and interesting. Even though the core concept was relatively unoriginal, the execution is what makes this so entertaining. The casting is perfect and so is the acting. All of the cast feel right for the roles. The film is beautifully made, the cinematography and the music are literally perfect. There is a visual interest and variety so it never feels drab unlike some other similar films. It reminded me of S. Darko (2009) which I actually really enjoyed also. My only gripe was that I didn't like the ending, it was a very disappointing ending for me. It reminded me of the weak ending for May (2002). Well worth watching but be prepared for a weak ending to a strong story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review KANGABOY Streetwear Omg I love this movie and India Eisley is amazing, I wasn't surprised to see she is a Scorpio and we share the same birthday, India Eisley tapped into that magnetic, vindictive, revengeful darkness that only a Scorpio knows and keeps well controlled, but so perfect for this role. You are a master of your art India Eisley, superb, elegant, stunning! I took off one star only for the ending, but damn I enjoyed the ride from start to finish.
