Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again blends kitsch and nostalgia delightfully, dressing it up in Greek shades of white and blue and vivid '70s style. Jul 29, 2019 Full Review Linda Marric The Jewish Chronicle Ol Parker has managed the impossible by offering a sequel which is as impressive, if not better than the original. Yvonne H Drawback. Pierce Brosnan singing, but enjoyed the movie overall Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Audience Member The songs/singing, dancing, performances, and even the emotion of this movie were noteworthy, I'll say that much! I liked how they constantly connected the present day events to past events and focused on the overlap between Sophie and her mother. By the end of the film it actually really worked! The women in the movie looked wonderful (particularly their younger selves) and there are some dramatic and shocking moments for sure! While this isn’t typically my kind of movie and while some of it did seem like a chore to get through, I have to acknowledge that in several respects it is a quality production! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Matthew D Amanda Seyfried and Lily James have the voices of angels. Director Ol Parker’s jukebox musical romantic-comedy Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) is a delightful sequel. We get to hear beautiful covers of Swedish pop icons ABBA’s greatest hits as well as the deep cuts that did not make it into the first film. Parker’s direction is lively as he playful recounts Catherine Johnson and Richard Curtis’ story about how Meryl Streep’s Donna first met her three loves, and had her daughter Sophie. “Knowing Me Knowing You,” “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Fernando,” and “Super Trooper” were my favorite ABBA songs performed here. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is a wonderful movie that lets the cast of strong singers really shine and express very emotional scenes with a resplendent vibrance. The end credits are spectacular. Amanda Seyfried is endearing as the sweet heroine Sophie, dealing with the passing of her mother and giving new life with her pregnancy. Seyfried excels at the tender intimate drama scenes where Sophie is vulnerable. Her outstanding vocals soar. Seyfried makes musical theater look effortless. Lily James is excellent as the young Donna. Her strong singing and playful personality match Meryl Streep’s Donna exactly. When James gets up to sing “Mamma Mia” is a really exciting moment and lets you see James dance a lot too. I’m amazed at how James changes her movements, walk, accent, and tone to match Meryl Streep. What a fantastic impression of the legendary Streep. I love when Streep shows up asDonna for her big number that’s very touching about motherhood and sisterhood. Christine Baranski is as flirty as ever as Tanya. Jessica Keenan Wynn does a fabulous impression of the sophisticated Baranski. Pierce Brosnan is touching as the mournful Sam. Jeremy Irvine is handsome and equally moving as the young Sam. Dominic Cooper is even better this time as Seyfried’s lover Sky. His voice is one of the best among the men. Colin Firth is so silly and fun loving as the stiff businessman Harry Bright. Hugh Skinner does a great impression of Colin with his nervous stammer and mannerisms. Andy García’s Señor Fernando Cienfuegos and Cher’s Ruby have a great duet together before Cher sends us off for the finale. They’re very amusing. Stellan Skarsgård is cool and sweet as the sailor and travel writer Bill Anderson. His scene with Julie Walters’ Rosie is very cute, especially when he misses Streep’s Donna. Josh Dylan is very handsome and likable as the young Bill, you can imagine Meryl’s Donna falling in love with back then. Alexa Davies’ vibrant young Rosie is nice like Celia Imrie’s cameo as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford. Omid Djalili’s supporting role as the Greek customs officer just keeps getting funnier. In short, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is a fantastic sequel that allows Amanda Seyfried and Lily James to show off their tremendously powerful singing skills and heavenly tone. I’d happily watch a third movie to hear even more ABBA pop hits and deep cuts they couldn’t include here. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Diego L I like the music and choreography, but it does not make sense the timeline taking in mind the original movie. However, it is good to watch if you don’t care a lot of the events in the first one movie Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Rob A Great sequel; the all star cast really crushed it! Try to stick around for the closing credits - they're a lot of fun too :D Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review cinema f “Discover how it all began.” I loved it. I was sad because of Donna. I loved everything, and plus ABBA duh. The soundtrack is everything. 5/5 stars. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
