Anton Bitel Little White Lies the narrative landscape is peppered with signposts recognisable from the slasher, the survival thriller and The Most Dangerous Game, but mapped out in a disorienting manner that makes it all too easy to lose one's bearings. Seth M The acting of the supporting cast was atrocious but that's the only bad thing I can say about this film. Loved the sound design. The tension was perfect. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review jesse o This is what I would definitely call a slow burn, but it actually turns into a really disturbing character study about a psychopath who does very sick things because he derives pleasure from them. The thing that I like most about the film is that it starts off completely different than how it actually ends up. You're being guided down this path before it completely, and not entirely unexpectedly, veers you off of it and it reveals what's really going on. I think the film is definitely good leading up to the reveal, but the reveal definitely takes it to a higher level once you start to think about everything that happened and trying to figure out the reasoning behind this madman's actions. If there's one thing that I didn't like about the film is the fact that the dialogue is in English, instead of letting the actors speak in their native tongue. The acting, for the most part, works, but I do think that the performances would've been considerably better and more convincing, particularly from the kids featured in the first 'part' of the film, before the reveal, if they were allowed to talk in their native tongue. That is, assuming, that all of the actors are Indonesian. I just think that there's some delivery issues because of the actors performing in English instead of Indonesian. But, other than that, the film is pretty damn good actually and well worth watching. It will definitely require a lot of patience to get through, but once you do get the payoff, it adds a lot of interesting themes and layers to something that, for the most part, seemed really straightforward. But I think the reveal definitely adds a lot of really interesting wrinkles to the story and it's immensely rewarding to watch. Yes, it's dark and bleak, but that doesn't mean it isn't a satisfying narrative to watch through to its end. I think the film has some pretty great cinematography, I just think it gives off a sense of solitude and peace, but it also adds some tension to the story because you simply do not know what is hiding out in the forest. And I think that's what the film is partly about. What dangers are hiding out there, even from people you least expect it from. But anyway, outside of some acting hiccups due to it being in English, and the fact that it's a slow burn, which wasn't actually a problem for me, but it might be fore others, I really fucking liked this movie. It's not that it doesn't do anything that's wholly unique to it, but I just think it does a lot of things really well. I think it just builds up tension, there's good atmosphere and the story goes to some pretty dark places. That makes a real good movie, to me. It's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea, but I think genre fans will find a lot to like here. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It is a slow walk to the seriously twisted finale. I thought I had it pegged early on what was really happening but it turned out to be much worse. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member 'Modus Anomali' is just like a ride in a haunted house.. which ultimately delivers in the end--Think Vanishing meets Memento by way of Groundhog Day... indeed an Anomaly!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member While watching this I felt almost cheated since it felt like movies I've seen before, but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised by what the outcome was. The English is pretty terrible for the movie which was another turn off but just bare with it. When all starts being shown and you find out what's really going in, you will be amazed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Nån skräck upplever man inte, han som filmat denna suger på att skapa känsla, sen är ju manuset ett av dom mer störda jag sett inte värt att ödsla er tid på.
