Alejandro E. M Una sorprendente y magnifica adaptación de la leyenda de Mulán. Infinitamente mejor que la versión de 2020 de acción real de Disney. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Til now to me the closest and best adaptation of the Mulan folk lore. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow, went in this with high expectations since many were raving about this, and I have to admit it was really good. The realistic depiction of war and fights made this movie much better than other films about war. All the actors get a huge applause in bringing their characters to life, and I felt very bonded to Xiaohu (Tiger) in particular. The brotherhood between the characters feels fleshed out and not forced. Oh and major props for them all being incredibly dirty for filming. In addition, Mulan as a flawed character is incredibly refreshing since she tends to be regarded as an almost the perfect warrior in the Western world. This Mulan works her way up and makes many mistakes along the way, making her very human. Watching her break down and then rise up made me so proud of her. The overall plot flows very well and each event links to the next well. Also, having them constantly not win is so realistic. No long term war has one side always winning, and this movie reminds many ignorant viewers that. My only complaint which is why I could not give this movie a 100% is the pacing. The beginning is very rushed, and you have to quickly accept that Mulan and her father love each other very much before she goes to war. The middle of the film has better pacing, giving you time to bond to the characters and they with each other. Then the final 30 minutes is a mix between really slow and good pacing. The way they cut to other scenes at certain parts is very jarring. Overall, good film but if you're expecting happy times and no blood, then either grow up or run back to the animated film. This is a story about war, not some happy fairytale. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Some of the best script, screen play and acting from China cinema. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A major disappointment. While there are some great battle scenes, this film is a blight on the legacy of the ancient Mulan story. Only some ill-timed jokes and scenes too ridiculous not to laugh at were able to save it from being dull as ditchwater.
