Sentimental, old-fashioned stuff to be sure–but the simplicity and physicality of Robert’s film is effective mainly because it serves to put across this questionable vision. Go to Full Review

More an examination of Pagnol's adoration of his family and country life, the film is loosely themed around Marcel's determination to bolster his father's perceived omniscience, and his discovering in the process that adult's are not perfect either. Lush, gentle and idyllic, a superb film. See more Read all reviews
