Critics Consensus

Open Windows is undeniably ambitious; unfortunately, director Nacho Vigalondo's reach far exceeds his grasp.

Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com It's nonsense, but it's glorious nonsense. Rated: 3/4 Nov 7, 2014 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Before the tedious and convoluted cyber-thriller "Open Windows" is said and done, you may feel like jumping out of one. Nov 7, 2014 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times A thriller with so many viewpoints, feints and fake-outs that it swiftly disappears up its own URL. Nov 6, 2014 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts Uses some pretty crafty techniques... A super thrilling experience. Rated: 7/10 Jun 1, 2021 Full Review Dan Tabor Cinapse Open Windows is compelling in a the most voyeuristic way possible as we see Chord's exploitation of Jill through Nick's eyes, which given recent events seems eerily ripped straight from the headlines. May 29, 2020 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Open Windows is a stretched out gimmick, one hiding its predictability in its flashy visual innovations. Richard L This movie was made by someone who has never used a computer in their life. And taken one too many creative writing classes, I suppose. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Jacob V This was my first movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Bottom line: A good thriller. Dynamic, addictive, with Wood in the title role and entertaining plot twists, plus all this was originally shot with imitation of capturing video from the desktop. A moment is missed with decentralized applications such as Utopia p2p, but this is not critical. Open Windows is a good choice if you want to watch an entertaining movie. Recommend. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Sarah Stax This film is a reflection on our society, where the possibility of losing personal data is a nightmare for everyone. If the main characters had an application of the latest generation Utopia p2p, then many problems would have been avoided. The acting of Sasha Gray is one of the most terrible that I have seen. Just for the sake of the plot, I advise you to watch this movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/20 Full Review Audience Member The plot twists were well over the top; however, I was even more confused by Sasha Grey's presence as the female lead. That woman cannot act, but she does do a nice frontal! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Every so often a movie comes along that tests the patience, intelligence and, for lack of a better word, good will of the viewing audience. Sometimes these film professionals become so overwhelmed with their story and cinematic "genuis" they completely forget that there's an audience who are trying to understand the story for the very first time. This film, "Open Windows" is a perfect example of film craft at it's most pretentious and self indulgent Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
