Pom Poko is so delightfully weird, and jam-packed with oddities, that it's never dull, even if it is sometimes a little too disturbing for its own good. Go to Full Review

Its ecological concerns, nuance and occasional lyricism place it squarely within the Ghibli oeuvre but not among its masterpieces. Go to Full Review

Pom Poko might fly under the radar for most when it comes to the works of Studio Ghibli, but really should be considered one of their best works. Go to Full Review

It is a source of countless jokes, visual and verbal, which in the end make up what one would highlight in the first instance of a movie that runs at the rhythm of vertigo and whose two hours flies. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It never takes itself too seriously and the animation alone is worth a watch. Go to Full Review

Kevin P Jan 7 Easily one of the strangest and most underrated Ghibli movies ever made. It's a very entertaining farce that draws heavy inspiration from Japanese folklore. The characters are all really likable and memorable, with a great set of voice actors. The movie is a fun spin on the "Nature fights back" storyline with some good commentary on habitat fragmentation and suburban sprawl. The animation is very expressive with such fluid transformations that make the fight scenes hilarious and surreal. I liked all the internal debate amongst the tanukis. The first half of the movie is a lot of fun. However, the long runtime kind of makes the pacing drag in the second half. It's time that could've been time spent on the ending resolution, where the tanukis all take jobs and have different outlooks on what to do with the forest and making money in the human world. I like how sad and realistic the ending plays out. It's not a perfect movie, but it's still very creative and funny with a lot of passion. See more Ry N @RyGuy Aug 29 Comically lazy shapeshifting racoons fight back by blending in and disrupting society as humans destroy their forest. Not sure I'd call it a family film with the number of testicular jokes they make. See more Lucas O @LucasOMovies Aug 17 Rating: 52%. This was a weird film. The animation was good and so was the voice acting. However, the plot was too slow for me and dragged on. I am not big into slice-of-life stories, and some of this felt like one. Also, for people who have kids, this might be a little more inappropriate than most Ghibli films. Nothing crazy, but some scenes may not be suitable for small kids. The ending was also kinda sad and unsatisfying. Their demeanor for killing humans was a bit odd as well. Some good underlying messages, but some bad ones as well. Overall, just not very entertaining and kind of all over the place. See more Michael H @CaptainBeardo Jul 15 My favorite Studio Ghibli film. Raccoon dogs with giant male parts (censored meaning)?! What more could you ask for? My wife hates this movie, but it does have a more serious undertone and ecological message for society’s expansion. A must-see for Japanese animation fans. See more Landon J @Minxsykitty 11/29/2024 One of the more whimsical and very enjoyable message driven Ghibli films. Very heartfelt, with a satisfying albeit not story tale ending.
