Critics Consensus

Rings may offer ardent fans of the franchise a few threadbare thrills, but for everyone else, it may feel like an endless loop of muddled mythology and rehashed plot points.

The cursed video now looks like an experimental film made by somebody who has watched more Marilyn Manson videos than Stan Brackhage pieces. It does, however, provide clues to a mystery that really isn't worth solving. Go to Full Review

The characters are grossly incompetent, in addition to being vapid, and devoid of common sense. They each deserved what they get because each death meant the film was closer to ending. Go to Full Review

Rings is a special kind of awful. It's not scary, or thrilling, or suspenseful, or remotely interesting. It's a complete drag of a movie. Go to Full Review

Jaime M @RT45376361 7h This movie was trash and boring never again watching it See more Carlos M @CarlosMZ Apr 7 No es tan buena como la 2 pero sinceramente no es mala la trama es buena lo que supongo que no le gusto a varios es el hecho que la prota es medio acosadora al inicio pero tenia buenas intenciones y eso es lo que cuenta. See more James M @Jim4film Mar 28 Rings is underrated. Sure, it is a little formulaic, with the usual sprinkling of overly dark spaces, flashing strobe lights and cliche jump scares, but it achieves what so many other sequels fail to achieve: it extends the underlying storyline. The central idea that the cursed VHS tape gets transferred onto digital media is a clever one, and brings to movie into the modern era. The casting is solid, as is the acting and direction. Johnny Galecki's performance is great. Vincent D'Onofrio, one of the most underrated actors of modern times, is terrific as the priest Galen Burke. Matilda Lutz does a solid job in her role as Julia, but does not stand out from the ensemble. The script needed improving, feeling slow-moving and unoriginal at times.
