Critics Consensus

Rings may offer ardent fans of the franchise a few threadbare thrills, but for everyone else, it may feel like an endless loop of muddled mythology and rehashed plot points.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Overall, RINGS is sadly disappointing. Rated: D Mar 22, 2017 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times The cursed video now looks like an experimental film made by somebody who has watched more Marilyn Manson videos than Stan Brackhage pieces. It does, however, provide clues to a mystery that really isn't worth solving. Rated: 1/5 Mar 3, 2017 Full Review Valerie Complex Black Girl Nerds The characters are grossly incompetent, in addition to being vapid, and devoid of common sense. They each deserved what they get because each death meant the film was closer to ending. Rated: 1/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Allen Almachar The MacGuffin Rings is a special kind of awful. It's not scary, or thrilling, or suspenseful, or remotely interesting. Kawaii H The Ring is one of my all-time favorite movie series. And this one single-handedly ruined it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Josh A I can understand the hate for this one. The plot can get a bit weird at times. But, that being said, I liked it. For starters, it was nice to see a return to the books: this movie was a loose adaptation of Spiral, the second novel in the Ring series. It was also nice to see a return to the Rings in the short film, although I'm glad they didn't do a full movie about it because we already got that. It was also nice seeing more about Samara's origins and I hope we eventually get a Samara origin movie akin to Ring 0: Birthday. The ending is the best part though. It's where the Spiral inspirations are seen most, with Samara being reborn and the video going viral, similar to the fact that in the Japanese films and the novel series, Sadako kills via a thing called the Ring Virus. It leaves it wide open for a fourth movie, which I hope we eventually get. Also the tension as "rebirth" is slowly spelt out is amazing. Overall, good movie. Next up, nothing! That is the end of my big watch-through of the Ring series. I will edit this when the next movie comes out to say "Next up, (whatever the next one is called)!", but as of now, that ends it. What an amazing series. Can't wait for more Ring movies! As, let's face it: it's only a matter of time before we get more. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review James B Although it doesn't add many new things to the franchise rings is still an enjoyable movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Saif R Rachel and aidans absence in this Was so controversial, it left us an unanswered questions about their Fate and what happend to them and Where they are, i Will Never forgive them for not bringing back Naomi Watts, Rachel and Aidan story deserves a conclusion and a closure. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review B P ‘Rings' Doesn't Live Up to its Incredible Potential Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review :D It was horrible. i wasted 1 whole hour and 42 minutes on this piece of garbage. and it wasn't even making sense until someone explained it to me, aka my best friend. don't waste your time with this horrible movie.
