Rob v First of all Robby is a great bodybuilder and still looks like a champ at his advanced age. Coming from a bad youth in an bad time in America things must have been hard on him and many others. The movie/documentary starts out with the 6-steps plan, which is hardly original; nutrition, the mind/body connection, nothing new there. I did think it was a little strange to see the duo performing exercises that are in the top 10 of ‘don’t do these’, triceps kickbacks, pulldown in the neck, shoulder press from the neck, strange ‘twist & turn’ movements, but OK, if it works for you, it works for you. Futhermore a weird statement about ‘alkaline drinks’, because in the scene he’s mixing lemons with (warm) water, which would make ik acidic. Besides that, there’s no evidence whatsoever that alkaline drinks helps your performance. The same goes, in my opinion, for the ‘hydration IV’ (at $129) and the ‘push and pull guy’. But again, whatever floats your boat. A little puzzeling was also the fact that Robby stated that his use of Deca was a one-time thing? Seems highly unlikely, even with his incredible genes. The red line in the movie is the fact that he just seems to have missed the right train; when working with the Weider bros you might expect to get kicked out if you didn’t follow their narrative; that’s the way these things work in those branches. Working for 12 years as a bodyguard in the red light district is also not something that will get you further in life. And while other top-bodybuilders seem to have made a succesfull life during or after their carreer, as Arnold, Ronny and others have done, Robby seems to have missed out on this opportunity. As a former gym owner, and still training regularly, I always told my ‘champions to be’ that there’s more in life than the gym; spending your whole life following the bodybuilding-rules is demanding, and very hard if you also have to make a living; eating every 2 hours? Getting 8 hours of sleep every night and plenty of rest inbetween? Spending tons of money on high quality food, supplements and gym fees? It is really not for everyone, and after 67 years I’ve come to believe that riding your citybike for 20 minutes an day and living a sober life is in many ways much healthier than trying to keep up your fysique you had in your glory days. So I’m al little torn in my opinion of this movie, I do hope it brings Robby the recognition he deserves, but as a guide how to live your life it’s not my favorite.
